After being starved since the back end of last year, Alan Skinner called me down to the quay tonight to give me my first fresh mackerel of the season. I could not wait to get them home filletted, bread crumbed and in the frying pan. Sadly i could only eat four, mind they where monsters, with some nice crusrty bread and some fresh beetroot. and bolied spuds. Oh yes Bamber caught a 19lb ling which i thought i was obliged to photograph, being the biggest scrounger out and never turning anything down i went home with that as well.

I wouldn\'t turn down free fish either, but wonder why, if someone pulls in a 19lb fish, that they don\'t fancy themselves, don\'t they hoy it back??ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ.

Alan,
did you find that the mackeral were wormy???
A neighbour of mine was given some freah macky on Thursday (which had been caught that afternoon) and asked if I\'d fillet them for him. Ofcourse, I said that I would..............all good sized fish (understatement), but loads of worms in them.
Not something I\'ve really noticed before in mackeral.

the ones we got last weekend were very wormy, parasitic little things inside the gut cavity, and lots more than usual. don\'t know if it\'s coincidence, but never had em with worms in off the west coast.
still taste the same thoughʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ.

I\'ve caught wormy mackeral for the last 3 years, mainly from the shore though, all the boat caught ones seemed to be OK. I don\'t mind as they go straight into the freezer for winter whiting bait.

Been to busy eating mackerel to get to the pc. Got another load off Alan yesterday and have already made a good hole in them, mackerel for every meal since friday tea time.
TC, never noticed any worms in the mackerel, at least not in the meat and as i fillett them without gutting, never noticed the insides.
Graham, yes got the pictures you sent of the skate trip
Jimmy, yes i will be putting all the pictures up that i took, even the one of you, after they have been in journal (copyright) how did yous get on today
Mike, only managed four because they where huge, i have 19lb ling for starters. Paul Bainbridge kindly donated it to the Alan Charlton benevolent fund. Had some of the ling tonight for dinner, before another plate of mackerel, crusty bread, and salad and bolied maris piper spuds.
