If you have a contract phone you should be able to bar premium rate outgoing calls by contacting your provider. I have done it on all my phones and it saves any worries about such cons.

If you really really have to vote on big brother/stars in their eyes and come dancing you can set a limit of for example £1 so you can still text to vote(at least you can on orange)

Another con is when you get calls from your service provider to tell you its time to upgrade. Non of the service providers ring you. This is con merchant shops dialling at random as they know your provider by your prefix number. If they call 12 people the law of averages says one will be due to upgrade in the next month. the cheepest way to upgrade is direct via your provider (you ring them) or direct over the internet where the best offers are listed.

Finally a hint for those who want the best contract for what you can afford. Your contract is coming to an end and your thinking of upgrading to that posh new model...DONT!

Ring up and cancel your existing contract giving a months notice. A few days later you will recieve a letter along the lines of \"sorry you are leaving us, but its never too late to change your mind. Ring this number 0800xxxxxxx and speak to one of our representatives. DONT phone it...wait till a few days before your disconection. The longer you wait the better deal you will get.

When you finally ring the number you will normally get straight thru to a representative without having to endure an hour of poxy music on hold. You are now through to the \"retensions\" department. They are enpowered to offer you far better deals than any of the sales people, find a deal that suits and resign the contract you had no intention of ending on a new and improved tarrif.

In the last two months I have renewed three phones. All now have the latest mobile and at least twice the minutes they had for exactly the same price. One phone went from 120 mins and 240 texts for 25 quid to 300 minutes and 1150 texts for the same money.

                  Cheers
