Hi Lads, not been on for a while as i have been busy getting ready to move house.now i am only moving 4 miles out of town but the big problem is my beloved telewest does\'nt extend out to there and i am having to go with one of the other providers, having to get a bt line but dont fancy their broadband packages as they are expensive and the 2G or 6G a month download sounds pants.i have looked at the Tiscali options and they seem better or are there any other unlimited broadband suppliers out there that i have missed? any feedback would be appreciated Ta

Have a look at Demon, Gogs.

Not the fastest (2 meg), but unlimited for £20 a month.

Gordon, Tiscali say unlimited but they have a fair usage policy which in effect means it is limited, VERY limited.

      Cheers, Keith.

Gogs I used to have Tiscali but got shot very quickly. I\'m now on AOL which, touch wood, is fine and I could upgrade further. Hope the hoose is OK.

Hello Gordon nice to hear from you mate. Same as David AOL. Had one or two tiny problems a while ago but all sorted and wouldn\'t change from them now.

Go with TalkTalk. I am with them and have got the free broadband etc.Costs you initially £30 for connection then it is free with fantastic download usage etc. They send you a modem and disc etc and it is simple ( must be i did it). They also have free emailing etc.I was really sceptical at first thinking this is too good to be true but it has proved to be excellent.

All you have to do is sign up with them for Bt option 3 ( free calls 24/7 to land lines ) and you also get free international calling to 28 different countries( handy for hols etc ).

At this moment in time for 8 meg broadband plus all my phone bills i have not paid more than £25 per month and that includes line rental

they\'re all liars rougues and thieves!!!!

on a huge soap box at the mo with isp\'s

yet to find a single one that offer\'s 8meg, and have clients that actually get 8meg

bulldog, tiscali, and telewest and a few others have all been given very expensive slaps by offtel in the last couple of months for telling little porkies

the 8 meg (and 2 and 4) is largely theoretical, they can sell you that, but yet to see anyones actually work at that speed.

2 issues... first is something called contention ratio, anyone remeber paty lines for phones in the 70\'s?? well broadband connections are largely just that, the contention ratio is how many people are sharing the node at the exchange that supposedly dishes out the 8meg

if ther\'s 100 people sharing it, which isn\'t unusal, unless they are all tucked up in bed, you\'ll not get anywhere near that

most contention ratios should be in the 20 to 50 range, so ask em that question,

the other one is distance from a digital exchange, unless you\'ve got one next to your house. The bt infrastructure, which everyone needs to use at some point regardless of isp, is made of cheese, and they don\'t want to spend any money to improve it (think water comapnies and leaky mains - reduce leaks by reducing pressure, not fixing the damn leak)

personally, I\'d always go for one of the bigger players rather than be tempted by some of the 8meg for 14.99 type claims, a couple of quid extra a month is worth it for reduced stress when stuff goes wrong

only my two pen\'th though, for what its worth!

              Thought for the day:
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.
