  • after a camera

after looking around for a decent price and reading all the reviews I decided on hdew cameras, first time I have used them and will be again, gear comes from either Hong Kong or USA, they have stock in UK so no long wait, saved myself £300 and got a three year in house warranty as well.

Why fast primes (fixed) ? Fast (2.8) zooms give more options in 99% of situations

no, as do a lot of wildlife photography I use a sigma 50-500 saves changing lens's, and to carry round use a sigma 70-300 os lens, which is superb. And of course there is the extra cost of a fixed fl lens. My 300d, my backup for my 550d, which my grandson used when he came with me gave up the ghost and can't be repaired so got the 7d and use my 550d as backup, my grandson will be using that as well. If I ever feel I need a fixed high speed lens, say if I went to loch garten for the ospreys would do what a lot do and that is hire one, but the gear I have does me, had looked at the mk 11 & mk111 but don't think they are as good for what i do, and I don't need wifi or gps.

i too use the sigma 50-500, but if i had to do it all again, i would choose fast primes. just my opinion.

camera lenses are a bit like fishing rods, depends on opinion and what you shoot.

Good link Alan. I'm hoping to get a 7D this year. I use the Canon 70-300 is on my 400D. Used it recently for the little ones football final and I think I'm getting a bit better at the action shots. Hoping to go to Knockhill next month for the British Superbikes. There's a lad going to show me the ropes so hopefully will post some decent shots.

The 8 fps is an attraction as well as able to go higher ISO in low light to keep the shutter speed up. Got some canny football shots last year but had to go max 1600 on the 400D and they get grainy when I tried bigger prints.
