Just got back from the Battlesteads Hotel at Wark. Definately the best of the bunch so far this week. 3 guest ales (I had the White Velvet and it was the best pint I\'ve had all week) and the food was unbelievable.

I had the cured beef salad with tomato chilli chutney for starters, followed by lambs liver with caramelised onion mash and gravy. Our lass went for the grilled asparagus and mozzerella on toast, followed with the homemade beefburger, chips and salad. We both had the strawberry and limoncella panncosta. All absolutely delicious, all absolutely faultless.......and the best thing was the bill, only £27.10 for the lot (including the drinks). I would have quite happily paid £80 at Romano\'s in Cleadon Village for the same meal. They\'ll definately be seeing more of us in the future 10/10

Sounds cracking Rob ,shame I\'m on a diet ,well until tomorrow at least.
As Lemmylad says The Keelman is canny ,has its own micro brewery and so the beers canny as well ,the food is not as good as it could be but still not bad at all.

lambs liver with caramelised onion mash and gravy.
Had the same at Morrisons, Cowgate on Wednesday, special offer £2.99 and a cardboard cup of diet coke. You can even read the tattoos on the next table while you wait on hacky table for it to be served.

Never tried it yet for food but The Coach at Lesbury looks lovely food. The Sunday dinner is supposed to be cracking.

The Manor House on the A68 just past the turn off for Edmundbiers is canny with a good selection of ales (usually four), and a decent menu.

The Punchbowl at Edmundbiers is also pretty good for both food and drink also.

Try the Anhor at Whittonstall, really good choice of food and the chef often comes out for a chat on how you like it cooked and will tell you about anything new on the menu. They also have a couple of real ales too.

                Jim.

on pain of death don\'t go nar the punch at edmundbyers, the guys that run the pub in this god forsaken place have just taken it over.

its a long story, and this aint the place to discuss it legally or morally, especially if you thought of taking your kids
