  • I'm going to have my final word on this thread, you'll be relieved to know and it is a question to the people who have defended her, apart from the genuinely distasteful things that have been said about the death of an old woman.

Were any of you better off under Thatcher than before or since?

I was unemployed for quite some time during her regime, when she was ousted I was in full employment with regular pay rises. The Conservatives win another election and I find my pay rises have stopped and then made redundant, first time out of work in nearly twenty years. Funny that.
Looks like Thatcher has been done to death on here, so to speak, passions still run high when she is mentioned. She will certainly not be forgotten in a hurry whatever the reasons for remembering her.
People who live in glass houses have to answer the door.

I think your lack of pay rises and redundancy, are probably down to global economy rather than the conservatives winning the election, and of course the banks have done nothing to improve the marketplace.Hopefully the corner will be turned soon and you are soon to find another job.

Mandele was a terrorist. Does everyone now think that Gerry Adams wasn't a terrorist? How else can you describe a man that leads and directs the armed wing of the ANC, murder people and bomb primary schools? It was he and his lovely wife Winnie that came up with the rather jolly idea of tying someone up and putting a tyre filled with petrol around their necks and lighting it. Short memories folks have when it suits them

she was a politician pure and simple - they are all the same, some are worse than others. Least she had balls and didn't give a toss what people thought about her. On the plus side she was instrumental in ending the cold war, ended the strangle hold of the unions which had killed the british economy in the 70's, and turned the country's finances around. Sadly she gave birth to tony blair, who finished the job off for her where industry and manufacturing are concerned and went on to to erode civil liberties more than anyone before or since.

She's dead so what, get over it. If the Haters had aimed just a small amount of the energy and vitriol they are now spewing at the blair/brown/mandellson holy trinity this country might not be the **** heap it is now

absolutely totally right, people have short memories, very well said

                • GGGGGRRRRR sick of these supporters of Thatcher stating that because of her the NE is now a leader in industry, personally it is down to hard work that some have been able to get industry in the NE back where it was years ago. They go on how Thatcher brought Nissan and other industry to the North East, just imagine where the NE would be now if instead of closing the pits etc with the ADDITION of Nissan and the others. Don't think Nissan would of got here if there hadn't been such an outcry. And what else did the goverment at that time achieve, what happened to apprenticeships, it is now realised they should never have been stopped, we have very little skilled labour force left. And where do we get our coal from now other countries. She did however sort out the Falklands, think any government at the time would have.
