Her lack of compromise you mention was a pig headed disregard for people in general and a total disregard for the less well off in this country. Ok, the nationalised industries weren't working but they needed reform, not to be torn apart and sold to the highest bidder leaving hundreds of thousands of people out of work. The Thatcher regime was the closest thing to a totalitarian dictatorship that we have had, so if having a social conscience is namby pamby then I'll live with it. You talk about hindsight but with a little bit of foresight, thinking and good management a lot more people could have stayed in employment. Cameron is no better charging into deficit reduction measures with the same disregard for working people.
I was a school leaver in the Thatcher era and found it almost impossible to get work or training. I have nothing but contempt for the woman and certainly won't mourn her.
RIH Maggie.

Loads of analogies on this and other message boards between mrs thatcher and people from history such as adolf hitler, what rubbish, they were dictators she was democratically elected THREE times by the people of this country, so this view that everyone hated her is twaddle, this country needs a strong leader and unfortunately since mrs thatcher we have had no one with real leadership qualities in power. I dissagreed strongly with some of her policies and strongly supported others, but one thing i do is admire her strength and self belief. If only we had a leader now with her personal integrity.

A lot better than the namby pamby political leaders of all parties we have had since that will comprise on anything just to win a few votes, i have a lot more respect for thatcher (although with the benefit of hindsight some of her policies were simply wrong) than i do for any other PM in my lifetime.

Would mrs thatcher ever have compromised her beliefs and formed a coalition with someone she dissagreed with on many issues just to get into office, i dont think so. Without principles and belief in ourself we are nothing. Dont get me wrong here, yes i am a tory but dissagreed with some of her policies but admire her strength of belief in what she was doing. The compromise politics we have seen over recent times have hurt this country a hell of a lot more.

In her three victories the Tory party failed to reach even 44% of the votes polled. So on her best result over 56% voted against her. If you think that is democratic and proves she wasn't hated, you need a reality check!2016 - Cod, Dab, Dogfish, Gurnard, Ling, Mackerel, Saithe, Scorpian fish. .

I believe she was hated in the North East and rightly so she crippled our industry. R I H Maggie. In order to become "old & wise", you must first be young & stupid.

Cameron hasn't had to make any compromises, the Liberals are the party that had to break their promises to voters, the country is run by the Conservatives. Thatcher would definitely not have done what Clegg has done. As for coalitions, she never had to form one but I believe she would have to hold on to power, especially if it was the master and dog relationship that we have now.
I can only speak from personal experience of the Thatcher era and being from a working class family and area it was not a positive time at all, maybe it was for the "country", namely the well off, but not for the poorer.
I don't go in for any of the "Evil" analogies aimed at her but certainly uncaring, arrogant and ruthless applies in my opinion.People who live in glass houses have to answer the door.

If her cabinet ministers didn,t agree with her they didn,t last long.
She took this country back to the victorian days, expecting the poor to doff there caps and bow to the rich.
