Bought the CD within half an hour of the shops opening on Monday (release day - and DGs\' 60th birthday, aparently)........SUPERB !

I\'d heard the single \"on an island\" a few weeks back and thought.....hmmmm.....that sounds good (understatement...lol).
The only thing I wasn\'t (and still not) too keen on, was the Crosby & Nash harmonies on it. Now I like C & N (and for that matter CSN&Y and have most of their albums - anybody remember \"records\"...lol), but, nice as their harmonies are, I don\'t think they sit right on this - it\'s difficult to decide if you\'re listening to a David Gilmour or a Crosby & Nash track.......thankfully, that descision is made once the guitar solo comes in.

I had a look on the \'net at Gilmours website and found a short (6 minute) film you can download, on the making of the album.
I was fully intending to get the CD as soon as it came out, but what really clinched it for me was the opening bit of the film which features the opening track on the album, \"Castellorizon\".......As soon as I heard that guitar sound, that was it......hooked.

A couple of other tracks really stand out (for me) -
\"Take A Breath\" (Other than \"Castellorizon\", it\'s probably the most Floyd like of the songs)

\"The Blue\" (again, other than \"Castellorizon\"), is my favourite.
I\'ve gotta get one of those pitch shifter pedals - the effect on the guitar is awesome. For those who may not know (and have got Floyds\' \"The Division Bell\" album), the very high notes on \"Marooned\" were done using the pitch shifter.

There IS one thing I was extremely disapointed with and that was the lack of Storm Thorgersons\' artwork (although he does get a mention as a \"friend\" in the album notes.)
Other than the Floyd music, I always looked forward to seeing the artwork on any new album and was hoping that he\'d done design for DGs\' CD.

\"On An Island\".......yep, if you like Pink Floyd, you\'ll like this.......mind you DG probably OWNS the flippin\' island.....lol

Oooops.......forgot to put the link up to the film:

          http://www.davidgilmour.com/island.htm

Scroll down to the \"electronic press kit\" and select your player and download options.

You can also listen to part of a \"live\" concert (1 hour) featuring tracks from the new album and some old Floyd favourites on Radio 2 this Saturday (11th) from 8:30pm.
Broadband users will also be able to watch a 60-minute edit of the concert via the Radio 2 website.

Totally love Floyd but in partucular Dave Gilmour. He\'s one person who can send you into a trance just listening to his guitar solos (especially on Time). Sounds great - off to the shops for me.

\"Air guitar\" ????.......lol.......gerra proper one and larn, man - far more satisfying

                  Batt22 - last solo album was \"About Face\" in 1984 - last PF album (new material) was \"The Division Bell\" in 1994.

Just a note on \"Division Bell\"........Polly Samson (aka Mrs Gilmour) wrote most of the lyrics on both the \"Division Bell\" and the new album, \"On An Island\"

                      Lol Paul.......

Although I had my 1st guitar long before the \"Wish You Were Here\" album came out in 1975.........it did seem that a line in the lyric of \"Welcome to The Machine\" had been written specifically for me.........

\"You bought a guitar to punish your ma\"..........lol......and the rest of the family.

nice thing about the man, even though he\'s obscenely rich he\'s generous with it.

he sold his Maida Vale house for 5million and gave it all to a homeless charity after nothing more than meeting a woman who worked for the charity, which is some gesture

Certainly is, Mark - he also does a lot of work for \"CRISIS\" - a national charity fighting homelessness.

So is he better than our own Chris Rea? I know the genre is somewhat different but in quality and sound reproduction. I\'ve got a lot of time for both of them but as a none musician...... actually I was told at school that I could have been a succesful guitarist........as long as the tune involved the left hand and the right hand doing he same thing at the same time lol. Wonder how many members think the same. Who would you choose?
