  • Groundhog Day?

The most wierd nights sleep I\'ve ever had happened last night.

Went to bed at 11:30, waking the baby in the process. Nodded off as per usual, leaving our lass feeding her, only to be woken by what I thought was the bairn crying at the alarm going off. Straight in the shower, shaved, dressed and off downstairs. Looked up at the clock while I was boiling the kettle and it said 1:40? Must have stopped I\'m thinking, but then checked the other clock and it said the same

Back off to bed only to wake up again at 3:11, and then again at 3:11? Had I dreamt it the 1st tme I was thinking and then the mind started to race with crazy idea\'s and I couldn\'t get back to sleep at all

By the time the alarm actually did go off at 5:15 I was absolutely knackered and have been all day.

Crazy or what? Am I slowly losing it or is it just old age

Lmao Rob excellent post. I have never had one like that so you can\'t really put it down to old age. Unfortunately that only leaves one option mate.

Straight to bed tonight, no cheese and no funny mushrooms.

      Jim.

I\'m like that on Dayshift Rob,especially my first one,I\'m awake all night tossing and turning and checking the clock, paranoid in case I sleep in,not that I or the factory would give a toss.Seen me on nightshift wake up about two in afternoon and look out of the window and think what a lovely morning and start getting ready for work not realising that wor lass is down stairs watching Bargain Hunt or some sh\'te
          Cheers Alan...

got to agree there lads , them shifts really can screw you up especially these daft continentals i do.
i dont know if its day/night , monday or friday half the time.
i think the only good thing about them is you can fish marks thro the night thro the week when noone else can and get all the best spots and fish to yourself. (well er.. maybe not the fish !).

There\'s been a few times when I\'ve woken up thinking ,what day is it ,what shift am I on ,is it the weekend ....not good.
Mind you it\'s a nice feeling if I realise I\'m off work.

Yeah, funnily enough I am a shift worker Steve/Alan, and I think most of us have had the \"what day is it?\" \"what time is it?\" and \"what shift am I on?\" dilemma\'s. I often go to bed at 8am after a night shift and get back up at 9\'ish feeling great and then can\'t get back off.

I\'ve even nodded off in the chair and slept in for 3-11 and night shift before

I really think it\'s senile dementia setting in this time though. I went to pick the baby up from the childminders tonight and when I got back home I opened the boot to get the shopping out. Trouble was I hadn\'t been shopping and couldn\'t for the life of me remember what I was supposed to be doing. Luckily our lass was with me to get the bairn out the back as I\'d forgot about her as well

It\'s hard to believe I did a Focussed Improvement training course 2 weeks ago............WELL I THINK I DID ANYWAYS

Rob, I worked night shift for nine years and when I went back to day shift i had a number of nights like yours. It took some time to get out of it.
If all else fails, a dozen bottles of stella does the trick. It does,nt cure it, but you do forget about it for a while.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible,
but P*****g everyone off is a piece of cake.

Well I know what you mean Rob ,I get it quite often ,I go from days 7 till 3.30 to nights 20.45 start on a sunday usually work the Saturday inbetween ,what a joy ,followed by lates 15.35 till whenever depending on overtime after the shift . How the hell are you supposed to know what\'s going on lol . It\'s only the last few weeks when I\'ve had a day or two off ,as I\'ve been working seven days a week .
However as Mike says sometimes the Stella does help because after your \" micro sleep \" of an hour ,which happens a lot to me the Stella kicks in and I drop straight back off .
To summarise it is indeed a wonderful life working shifts

Yeah, I work the same shift pattern as you Steve, but being a team leader I tend to start earlier and finish later (Thank god I can DELEGATE the overtime to someone else )

Tried having a drink straight after nights but I tend to sleep lighter (more easily disturbed) and have to keep getting up for a wazz. I have found that having a breakfast before I sleep helps though.

I once read somewhere that shifts knock 5 years off your life expectancy, I can see why when 5 hours is a good sleep

Lol Rob ,same here mate I\'m a team leader also unfortunately this means I have to be present for weekend work ,and of course 30 mins before and 15 mins + after the shift. I try to make shifts work as well as I can for me ,like fishing tomorrow morning for instance.

its always a good excuse that you need a good drink when you just come off niteshift to stabalise your sleeping pattern
