Just my point Alan, Watch what you post or it will be removed, wheres the free speech in that.

s far as the argument about \"free speech\" goes.....(lost count of the number of times I\'ve had to say this), there is NO \"free speech\" on the \'net.......there are always consequences which go with what is posted.

As I\'ve again said, many times, it\'s Elton and me who would face those consequences
I take on board what Tony says though, I might not agree with it, but will abide as this is the laws/rules of this forum.

They should be charged with the same thing the lad who was arrested was charged with (at least)

I have tried to write something on this subject as it has really hit a nerve with me and I have never been so angry about the way that we are being made to cow-tow to others so we do not offend (in general not on the board).

I would like to think that I am one of the most tolerant people of all things but I feel like I am being bullied by this huge oppression (if that is the right word to use) Ever since political correctness hit (whenever it did) we could no longer say \'fat\' they are dietetically challenged. People are no longer short they are \'vertically challenged\' and people are no longer \'skint\' they are fiscally challenged. That is what is wrong with the world Political Bloody Correctness.....we have become so used to wrapping everything that could possibly offend in cotton wool that when we need to vent our spleen we get a bollocking when we do. (again not the board in general).

It is like the wise people at Spitting Image used to say \" It is Political Correctness gone mad\"

From what I\'ve seen on the news, the pressure being heaped on both the police and the Govt to take action over the blatant \"incitement\" incidents is enormous. Whether such action will be taken, I guess we\'ll see.

The demonstration was attended mainly by law abiding, moderate Muslims and, as has happened many many times during the course of demonstrations (going back to the earliest ones I can remember - the anti Vietnam war demonstration in Grosvenor Square), there were people attending who were INTENT on causing \"trouble\".

How many times on NESA have we complained about the minority of idiots who give the majority of anglers a bad name??

Just for a moment ......put yourself in the position of the bloke in charge of policing the demonstration.
Do you wade in with riot police to make arrests on those carrying the \"incitement\" banners and risk kicking off a full scale riot. We\'ve all seen that sort of thing happen in the past.
Or, do you gather information on those who are seen to be instigating violence and act on that information once you\'ve assimilated it.

Whether or not that is the case and how things will pan out, I don\'t know......as I said, I guess we\'ll just have to wait & see.

I agree that there will always be a minority who will spoil it for the majority, but we have to be able to be free to say that....and we are not. I would love for the police to be able to do what they need to do with the minimum of fuss but the government are so scared of offending anyone they place impossible restrictions on the way that the police can do the job.

                          I think we are, Clare.
The dodgey ground is where everybody of a particular faith or belief is labled the same as the extremists.

The people who are offended the most by extremist groups are those who are seen by \"outsiders\" to be a part of such extremism.

Just had a thought..... a question, really..........

EXTREMISM............why does it always seem to go the way of violence?.............isn\'t there another \"extreme\"............the totally opposite of violence?

In all fairness I can see the point of what you are saying Tony. But if you dare mention anything to do with the current tensions in the world people are scared to say anything. So in that sense we are not.

I know of a conversation which happened in my office regarding the situation about the cartoons and someone walked in and it stopped instantly, not because it had ended but because the people were wary of who had walked in.

The company that I work for has issued guidelines on how we approach people of varying faiths so we do not offend them and so we do not in any way cause the company to be sued (the company I work for is American btw).

My point is that the majority of people are scared to express who they are, yet the minority get away with murder. Literally.
