what do we pay taxes for???

err... prescotts 3 Jags, tony\'s villa in tuscany, the extra 22grand a year mp\'s get to sit on a comittee/quango, to pay for more speed cameras to get more taxes from us, an more cctv systems so we can be monitired to work out ways of taxing us even more, 300 grand a year to keep mandelson quiet in brussels in case he lets the skeleton\'s out of the cupboard, several billion to lubricated George Bush\'s Sphincter

thats just off the top of me head though, sure some more will come to me

Had a few beers after work on fri as per, sobered up pretty sharpish though when i watched tonight with Trevor Mcdonald.
we idiots in the private sector must work till we are 67 to pay for the public sectors pensions so they can retire between 60 and 65 and for this privilige we have to contribute to our own private pension so we can eek out a miserable existence when we (if we get) to that age.
we have also endured massive rise\'s in council tax to help pay for this.
and the new news is \"Browns got his figures wrong on the econonmy\" and we are going to get humped yet again on taxes.
hey but whats new we have been humped ever since these ****s came to power.

\" \" What the *uck do we pay taxes for then?\".................

Over recent years, I\'ve become TOTALLY disillusioned with the way our country id run / Governed.

I remember how glad I was when \"Labour\" came to power.........after years of Tory rule and the virtual dismatling of society. It was only a couple of months into the New Labour Govt. when I realised how the electorate had been conned, BIG TIME!

How this Govt. can continue to use the word \"Labour\" in it\'s name is beyond me and I\'m sure the old Socialists will feel as much betrayed as I do on that score. It represents NOTHING which I\'d voted for all my adult life.......Thatcher was right when asked what she thought her greatest achievement was from her time in office, she said \"New Labour\". New Labour is nothing more than a continuation of \"Old Conservative\" values and Policies.

Many years ago, I actually joined the Local Labour Party - I wasn\'t there long as it soon became VERY clear as to which way the Parliamentary Labour Paty was going........and it wasn\'t the way TRUE Labour members wanted. It was clear that long held Socialist valuies were going to be scarificed in favour of national popularity (\"national popularity\" meant the middle class - it was the only way in which Labour (as it was then called) could stand any chance of returning to Power. The originall values of the \"Labour\" Party were soon dumped as they wern\'t applicable to their new \"target\" group - the Middle Classes. Ever since, the working man and ALL of the previously held \"sacred cows\" of (old) Labour ethics have been trampled beyond recognition.
This is NOT a Government to \"represent\" the working classes - it\'s a Government trying to hang on to power by pandering to the whims of those with the biggest purses.......not the justest voices.

It seems like several life-times ago when I sat up and watched with great elation, the Tory grip on the country crumble and the new \"Labour\" Govt was elected..............as far as \"best cons in the world - ever\" is concerned, surely, THAT must rank as THE best !

my favourite quote in the run to the election came from the venerable maggie herself

\"It really doesn\'t matter who you vote for anymore, a tory government will be ruturned to power\"

Financially I was better off under her government than this one.

Problem is, there are far too many people that will vote labour no matter WHAT there policies are.

                      Jim.

We pay our taxes so that this government can spend 48million to help the sick in India.

the biggest problem with this lot is waste. maggie had a press department that employed 120 people, there\'s now over 1000 of em spinning away. cost of government used to be around 4 billion a year to run all the departments/beaurocrats, now topping 24 billion

a perfect expample is the new paper that just came out this week, advising people how to look after their cats and dogs, how to feed them, safe ways to open a can etc WTF! cost to the tax payer 200K!

A friend of mine was one of the barristers in the holyrood inquiry, the amount of our money these guys have spent to keep themselves comfy is obscene, aprt from the half billion to build the holyrood parliament offices in edinburgh, look at the new offices in whitehall for mp\'s. because of the extra civil servants employed in every department they had to build new offices.

now if any other company were to build an office, it\'d be what, 10, 20 maybe 30 million tops for a massive office complex. New parlimentary offices came in at 300million

each MP\'s office has thier own bathroom, fully lined in Italian marble, the door handles made to order to an architects design etc. to fit each toilet out ( and there\'s 500 of them) cost nigh on 30 grand - thats 15 million quid of our money just so these guys can let out a bit of what they are full of etc etc etc

and through all of this the media have been thus far so afraid of challenging anything, they\'ve largely gotten away with it all. Wether its presscott and his council tax, or Lord Irvine (lord chancellor) and his refusal to vacate his westminster offices which he\'d just redecorated, with wallpaper costing 1300 quid (yes one thousand three hundred pounds) a roll... which we paid for

pensions?? don\'t make me laugh, and don\'t waste your time, by the time most of us get to retirement age, we are going to be so means tested that anything you might of put by for retirement will count against you, so you\'ll get nothing back for all those stamps you\'ve paid, and probably get taxed again on waht you\'ve saved.
