  • auld geordie talk....

Hi lads, ive been honoured to help out an old lady down south who is an exiled geordie(her and her husband came down years ago to work in the local hospital)she is kicking on 95 now but still has all her zest for life.the craic is brilliant, she described her husband as "A BIT OF A TALLYMAN,A GADGEY WHO COULD PUT A FROTH ON A PINT OF SHERRY"she calls me "hinny"and asks after "our lass"....the geordie dialect has got to be preserved in some way spoken by the older folk, anybobody else got any other stuff?...........me and one of the lads off here are going to make a bogey and hurtle down the biggest hill we can find(the best one i can find so far is the bank down to burnmouth harbour)if anyone knows of some pram wheels kicking about that would help

a lad i knew out of hebburn used to work as a welder and riveter, they used to call the lasses who used to hoy up the hot rivets to the lads and collect the offcuts of the rivets once they were done....he always pointed out a "canny hinny"in hebburn social club,is a hinny a riveters mate or does it come from something else?
