  • Wales V Scotland

Oh what could have been, a few errors which could have led to scores, and a Wales try that included an obvious forward pass and should have been disallowed led to Scotland's loss

A game of two halves Alan. Scotland only woke up at 6-15, so frustrating!

I've said it before... They need to tighten up their game to really compete. No good playing loose rugby all the time. People have been salivating over this team for a while now but they don't do themselves justice.... Better than the last two 6N tables suggest.... Wales just keep grinding those results out beating whatever you put in front of them.

I'm not convinced Alan. I think it's a mental thing. Townsend has them pre programmed to play fast and loose..... Doesn't work against the really top teams very often. Might win a few games but Scotland could really compete if they tightened up. Hamish Watson is a massive miss at the minute

I'm not sure I buy that Marc. None of the Welsh tries came from Scotland "playing loose." Yes they coughed a ball up on the halfway line to give Wales a chance in the second half, but they then knocked on.Their first try we defended too narrow, second one just brute strength in the 22. Their game plan is the way forward for that team. Remember we had 8 first choice players out, we lost 2 wingers and a full back during the game. Scotland don't have the squad depth to cope with that.

Didn't mean loose play turned the ball over to the Welsh Mark. Defensively Scotland aren't in too bad shape. Just think their attack could be more effective by being a bit more direct every now and again. One of my old coaches used the old 'you've got to earn the right to go wide' and Scotland just seem to look wide straight away. Not surprising really wth the likes of Hogg etc though.

Injuries are part of the modern game now... Something like 1/3 of all premiership team squads are carrying injuries at anyone time. There is only really England and France who can take that kind of loss of players and still be ok. The other nations don't have the player base.

As much as Hogg and Russell are Scotland's spark, Watson is probably your biggest miss. He is outstanding at the breakdown.

In the second half they tried pounding the Welsh line without going wide and ended up 15 metres behind where they started and coughed the ball up. They never looked like scoring through the forwards. Couldn't agree more about Watson, played brilliantly when he came on.

I read Tom English on BBC recounting the Scottish players posing with their kids and partners at Murrayfield directly after the game - as he said it looked like they had won. I had already turned over by then, but a very worrying sign. No team should just accept defeat and smile for the press with their family.

As I said previously, I will be unavailable on Saturday!
