Way back in the mists of time (about 3 incarnations of NESA – so it wasn’t all that long ago….lol), I started a thread which was called “Let’s Get To Know Each Other Better”.
Basically, what I was asking for was for you to post a little about yourself so that those who don’t already know each other from being members of the same angling club, fishing mates, lifelong friends, or whatever can well, err, get to know you a bit better and vice versa.
As I did with the previous one, I suppose I’d better get the ball rolling (and hope that it doesn’t stop too early)
I’m 44, was born in South Shields and I’m still here.
Been married 23 years (in Jan. ’04) to Christine and have 2 kids (although no longer kids – well age wise, anyway !) ; Joanne (21) and Ian (18).
Worked for South Tyneside Council all my working life (that may well turn some off straight away….lol). Started there as a clerk, virtually straight from school then after a while joined the Street Lighting Section as a Technician responsible for maintenance and dealing with Road Traffic Accidents. I’ve recently had a complete change in career and now do photographic / graphic design work for the Council.
Listen to most kinds of music (EXCEPT poppy, chart stuff – what’s that all about, anyway??). Favourites in the past have included the likes of Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Led Zeppelin, Santana, Clapton, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Alan Parsons, Fleetwood Mac (the Peter Green years). Went through a spell of listening to (and thoroughly enjoying) Classical Music (yes Beethoven, Mahler, etc!!). More recently gone back to the “rockier” side, such as Skunk Anansie and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers – still mainly listen to me old favourites though, as mentioned earlier (but the odd Mahler symphony still creeps in from time to time…lol).
Played guitar since I was about 9 or 10 and always dreamed of owning a Fender Strat. (Got 2, now and they are regarded as my other “bairns” and I wouldn’t part with them for anything !)
Got into fishing only about 4 years ago. Ian asked me if I fancied joining him and one of his mates when they went fishing one Saturday afternoon – I did – and I’m still loving it. Still remember catching me 1st fish – whiting, about 5 inches in length (some things don’t change, eh!!).
Took over the day to day running of NESA for Elton about 2 years ago. Prior to that, it was run, built and previously owned by Jaybee, a bloke to whom I owe quite a bit. If it hadn’t have been for him talkin’ me into taking over this role then I wouldn’t be sat here writing this now.
