  • LET\'S GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER BETTER

Way back in the mists of time (about 3 incarnations of NESA – so it wasn’t all that long ago….lol), I started a thread which was called “Let’s Get To Know Each Other Better”.
Basically, what I was asking for was for you to post a little about yourself so that those who don’t already know each other from being members of the same angling club, fishing mates, lifelong friends, or whatever can well, err, get to know you a bit better and vice versa.
As I did with the previous one, I suppose I’d better get the ball rolling (and hope that it doesn’t stop too early)

I’m 44, was born in South Shields and I’m still here.
Been married 23 years (in Jan. ’04) to Christine and have 2 kids (although no longer kids – well age wise, anyway !) ; Joanne (21) and Ian (18).

Worked for South Tyneside Council all my working life (that may well turn some off straight away….lol). Started there as a clerk, virtually straight from school then after a while joined the Street Lighting Section as a Technician responsible for maintenance and dealing with Road Traffic Accidents. I’ve recently had a complete change in career and now do photographic / graphic design work for the Council.

Listen to most kinds of music (EXCEPT poppy, chart stuff – what’s that all about, anyway??). Favourites in the past have included the likes of Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Led Zeppelin, Santana, Clapton, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Alan Parsons, Fleetwood Mac (the Peter Green years). Went through a spell of listening to (and thoroughly enjoying) Classical Music (yes Beethoven, Mahler, etc!!). More recently gone back to the “rockier” side, such as Skunk Anansie and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers – still mainly listen to me old favourites though, as mentioned earlier (but the odd Mahler symphony still creeps in from time to time…lol).

Played guitar since I was about 9 or 10 and always dreamed of owning a Fender Strat. (Got 2, now and they are regarded as my other “bairns” and I wouldn’t part with them for anything !)

Got into fishing only about 4 years ago. Ian asked me if I fancied joining him and one of his mates when they went fishing one Saturday afternoon – I did – and I’m still loving it. Still remember catching me 1st fish – whiting, about 5 inches in length (some things don’t change, eh!!).

Took over the day to day running of NESA for Elton about 2 years ago. Prior to that, it was run, built and previously owned by Jaybee, a bloke to whom I owe quite a bit. If it hadn’t have been for him talkin’ me into taking over this role then I wouldn’t be sat here writing this now.

My name is Jim, I am 47 years old and live in Consett. I have been married for 25 years to Yvonne and have 2 sons, John who is 24 and Reuben who is 21 and married with a daughter. I like rock music, prefering older rock bands like Uriah Heep. Have been shore fishing for about 25 years, after previously trying boat fishing. Have just returned to it after a 2 year lay off due to my wifes illness. I have recently acquired a digital camera and enjoy messing about with that Quite a bit. Apart from that I like to hunt about on the internet quite a bit. While doing so about 3 months ago stumbled upon this site and have checked it out almost every day since. This was quite a bit longer but when i clicked on post reply it disappeared so now I have 2 sore fingers lol.

      ahh, Uriah Heep, eh?
Only ever bought 1 album of theirs, \"Demons and Wizards\" back in \'72.
David Byron - amazing voice / Mick Box - strange fella, but excellent guitarist.
Roger Dean (famous for his Yes album covers), also did a few for Heep, if I remember rightly (including D&W).
Did you know that Roger Dean is now a renowned architect?
He specialises in \"eco-style\" buildings (e.g. houses that are partly underground by being built INTO sloping landscapes. They only have their upper storeys and roofs exposed and the roofs are grassed over so as to form part of the \"natural\" slope.

Believe it or not, I\'ve heard that South Tyneside Council is looking at the possibility of having a housing development built to Deans designs.

I\'ve seen the promo brochure that he puts out and the houses look like something out of The Hobbit

lol no i didn\"t know that Tony. That is the best thing about this site, you learn something new every day. I went to see Ken Hensley the keyboard player with his new band last year at the opera house at newcastle was pretty good. If you like there stuff and still have a turntable will lend you a good 5 album box set next time I see you.

Know how you feel Ell, recently got told off for getting to work late. Told the boss had a problem with my arse so he said \"what\'s wrong?\"

Told him I can\'t get it out of bed in the morning.

Didn\'t seem to appreciate that much!

Well I\'ve just found time to get in here after Xmas and those who know me well will understand!
I\'m Andy Winter, 37 1/2 born \'n\' bred Sandancer (S/Shields) and very proud of it too. I\'ve got a beautiful wife & 2 kids (4 & 6) who I live for. I love me fishing and don\'t do enough of it. I\'m like Ell in a diluted sort of way and have a bad back. I\'ve been off graft now for 5 years due to it and would love to get back somehow.
I\'m currently hoping to re-train into web-design and have been messin about with my own site for a couple of years and learning (as most of you know) I\'m a genuine, honest lad. I have a slight stutter that a couple of Broon Ale seems to cure just fine, I\'m gan on a strict diet after New Year to lose \"the beer gut\" and get fit!
Musically I\'m a bit of an old Punk like Sless but keep up to date and I\'m currently into System Of A Down, Machine Head, KoRn, Slipknot, Foo Fighters, Nirvana (big influence), Kings Of Leon, Jet, The Darkness and any other new band out there thats after changing the face of music |ii| I just love music and enjoy anything (surprised about Daniel Bedingfield tho Sless )
Lets enjoy our fishing and life together while we\'re here
I treat others as I expect to be treated myself and expect to be treated the same way!

A short, fat and hairy 46 year old Welshman born and bread in Bangor. I used to be a Civil Engineer, but now I\'m an IT Consultant/Contractor. Moved to Leeds about 16 years ago.

I have one wife Sarah, and three daughters Katie, Lucy and Amy. I have wall to wall hormones to look forward to ! Also, one daft dog (Westie) who is currently trying to dig up the ground floor of the house trying to catch a mouse - it must be hell to have such an acute sense of smell and hearing.

Been sea fishing since I was about six years of age. In addition to sea fishing, my hobbies include DIY/Home restoration/renovation. I\'ve nearly finished my largest project to date, which over 12 years has taken a small 3 bed semi-detached (with potential) to a generous six bedroomed suburban villa - more of a youth hostel really with the amount of kids stop overs.

I also like music (there is no such thing as bad music, but some music is better than others), check out my FTP site on ftp://mikepapa3.hn.org , user mp3, password mp3. I used to play guitar, but now do the piano (one of my greatest achievements has been to pass my grade 1 piano aged 44!). I\'ve recently rediscovered the joys of Scalextric slot car racing.

Gave up smoking (1 Oz of Old Holborn or Samson per day - that about 40 a day !) some 15 years ago. My Alcohol intake is negligible, I like the taste of beer, but not the after affects, wine is degrees of vinegar and spirits are what you use to light up the Tilley lamp.

Over the years my hair has gone from short to long to short and through various styles. I\'ve now given up trying to make it tidy (even a No 1 looks like I\'ve been dragged through a hedge backwards). So I let it grow (long haired git), anyway, if you\'ve got it flaunt it.

As I have reached the prime of my life, I have become the grumpy old man recently documented on the telly. If the politicians and organisations who serve this union of states that we call the United kingdom, really need new ideas. Then they should do what the grumpy old men are telling them.

well, my name is Paula, i am lazy at typing and can\'t be arsed with pressing an extra button/ key to get up the capital letters that often.
started sea fishing about 2 years ago when we lived in a little village just south of bridlington in east yorkshire. we now live about as far north as you can get on the mainland uk without getting your feet wet at a place called scrabster.
been married to stuart nearly 15 years (we met, ran away and got married within 6 weeks of meeting) and have one daughter aged 12.
we both work on the ferry that goes between scrabster and stromness on the orkney islands as security so it is great fun in winter watching the green faces and in summer we get to see whales, dolphins and otters galore as well as all varieties of bird life both the ones around all year aswell as the migratory ones.
we moved up here to get away from city life and the rat race, i would never move back down to england again (but will call into south shields once in a while when visiting....lol)
