  • Christmas Lights

Is it just me or is Britain turning into National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. I was travelling back home from Shieds last night and every other house was lit up better than Blackpool. Have these people gone daft or is it some kind of competition to see who has the best lighting arangement. Passed through Whiteleas and Boldon it just got rediculous, the amount of lights. TC, you must need sun glasses at night in your street. Do we need that kind of drain on the national grid.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible,
but P*****g everyone off is a piece of cake.

I\'ve noticed it more and more as years have gone on ...you always find it\'s either a street of em or a couple of houses together.

\"........is it some kind of competition to see who has the best lighting arangement........\"

Got it in 1, Mike. (well in our little street, anyway).

There are 5 households which try to out-do each other EVERY year.....it\'s quite funny watching them put them up, actually..... and the amount of lights they put up just keeps getting bigger every year.

One of the houses in the square has an inflateable 7\' snowman in the front garden.......Well it WAS inflateable until it was \"sabbotaged\"......seen it last night as I was coming home from work......I think a jealous neighbour must\'ve either pulled the stopper out, or punctured it. Lol.....it was looking rather \"de-flated\".

Remember the programme on telly last year with Robson Green in.......about rivalry over Christmas lights???.......well it\'s just like that in our street.

We have a non-illuminated (well except for the porch light), Christmas Wreath on the front door...........and last year, somebody nicked it !!

The rplacement is up again this year, secured with 4 plastic cable ties........lol

i am a bit of a mr. humbug when it comes to christmas now , did not used to be mind but these lights and even some up in october for F**ks sake. its all just show off!!!!. can you imagine being accross the road from from these houses it would be like a bloody disco. i dont think i could live with it. when you talk to christmas light nuts they say its for the kids, i beg to differ, it for the adults to outdo each other. if its for the kids why dont they spend there money on something worthwhile like some kid who may not be getting out for christmas. these people have more money than sense. where has the christian spirit gone at christmas, and as for lights and decorations there should be a law no earlier than a week before christmas and taken down on 12th night.
i still love christmas dinner with my family though lol

          cheers

Bri try the global warming aproach lol.

I am surprised Swmbo hasn\'t mentioned the tree yet as she usually gives me grief about not putting it up yet. Might get it done a week afore Christmas, can\'t really see the point in it meself. If it wasn\'t for the Grand bairn don\'t think I would bother. I usually go fishing on Christmas eve as all of the good spots are available lmao.

                    Bah humbug,

                    Jim.

Allenheads is the place for trees - \'fresh cut\'

bring your own bowsaw! Nordman Firs in the main - no needle drop

                      they need thinning out anyway

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

The Inverse coconut theory applies IMHO

Thanks everyone, I thought it was just me. I hate chgristmas and could well do without all the fuss. Before I got married I used to book into a place called the Sportsmans Arms in Yorkshire. A great pub, sited on the edge of a resevoir and all you did was go fishing and eat and drink. There were no decorations, no television and no radio. You could just forget about christmas and enjoy the peace. Ive told the wife I am going back there next year and shye can have christmas with her familly.
Mark, I do live across the road from one of these houses
Tony, You have my deepest sympathy.
