tsunami documentary bbc

just watching this documentary. i have seen the footage again and again from the tsunami and its one of the most upsetiing and frightning things i have ever seen especially as it was an act of nature, my partners brother who has a lass over there both decided to go up in the mountains for there christmas break instead of on the coast where they normally go. very very lucky but so many were not so lucky. it just goes to show how powerfull the sea is and never to underestimate it

Its similar to 9/11 you would expect it to be easier to watch as time goes by but sadly it is\'nt.My mate was there for his holidays but had decided to go to another part of the country for the Christmas,they would normally be in that part that got hit,cant remember the exact name of it but his mates sister has a bar and accomodation there,it was badly damaged but not beyond repair,he went back in the spring to visit them and is booked up for this Christmas again

A poem I wrote just after the Tsunami

TSUNAMI

We never really want to watch the news these days
As it always saddens us in many ways
Especially when nature unleashed a terrible beast
And sent great waves ashore for a horrible feast
And take so many back out to sea
They called it a Tsunami
Hardly a nation went untouched
As the blood from many gushed
Many children survived with a struggle
All they could do was gather in a huddle
As there was no one there to give them a cuddle
Survivors sitting all forlorn
Their bodies all battered and torn
Hoping that their loved ones will once again be seen
As Tsunami left many bloated and unclean
So alive or dead they will be washed till they gleam
But many will forever remain unseen
And what a day for such a terrible scene
The day after the worlds Xmas presents had just been seen
With bodies and acres of land mashed to a paste
How could GOD allow this terrible waste?
To holiday makers enjoying an idyllic place
Laughing with locals with a friendly face
To some it was nearly the end of their race
The local inhabitants tried to help themselves
As a lot of aid was left on the shelves
You have to say they where very brave
To help tourists saved from the waves
As many of their families lay in their graves
Although the Tsunami was horrendous
The shock brought out the best in us
While governments dithered
The food stocks withered
And to many Tony Blair
Did not seem to care
When he decided to stay out there
The general public put governments to shame
As they thought they knew who to blame
For acting so slow and looking so lame
As the money rolled in from private donations
It put some life into governments of nations
Who quickly matched private donations
One thing that was missing and hope will soon be seen
Was an early warning system with a great big beam
So this terrible sight will never again be seen
Oh God we wish it had just been a terrible dream

very good, very sad and so true alan, we conducted a funeral for a local man whose widdow asked us for donations to go to the tsunami appeal and was amazed at how much was collected at church, i think it was over £1200 pounds in cash and nearly the same again in cheques
