  • Countryside Alliance

In a letter to this months Sea-Angler an angler \"cannot understand why some people want to align with the Countryside Alliance\". I don\'t hunt but as a farmer who fishes and shoots (in that order) feel that they are standing up to the anti blood sports type organizations who don\'t want to see any hunting shooting or fishing. Salmon fishing is my main sport and I only sea fish for some sport in the winter, thus am only a member of fresh water fishing clubs and don’t speak to many sea anglers. I was wondering what views sea anglers had on this subject.

I never thought of angling as a blood sport coz fish havegot no fur and ugly girls dont stroke them and say ahhhh or aww coz they would have scaly face and then stink of a fish and why do fish onlt stink after you catch them. If a anti person complains to me aboit catchinmg a fish then i eat all my worms/crabs etc before them then take them down the food chain and they will be sick first

Hi GJ, havn\'t got time to post in full to your comments tonight as I have just finished work and am just trying to catch up mate.

I have an idea that this thread will run a long way as it has a few times before as it is an excellent question.

        Will say more tomorrow.

        Jim.

Angling isn\'t a blood sport, these don\'t think so.

Two great link\'s Gary they make wonderful reading don\'t they.

I have spoken to a lot of angler\'s over the year\'s that think these people are not a threat. Well in my opinion the only reason that we are not on this governments list of things to be banned, is the fact that we put so much back into the economy. Not just through tackle shops but through hotel\'s and B&Bs when we travel further afield to enjoy our sport.

Never underestimate these people they have an agenda and that agenda is us and the end of our sport. This is just one of the many reasons that some people need to clean up their act and stop leaving litter all over the place. Go anywhere to a fishing mark and it\'s there. We can\'t say that it hasn\'t always been left by anglers as the Seabait or whatever is written all over it, discarded line tied to railings for dogs and cats or birds to get caught in and vermiculite strewn everywhere.

One day it will stop, lets hope it\'s us that stop it before they stop us.

            Jim.

My opinion is weel knwon...As reagrd anti groups...well there\'s anti everything isn\'t there...To make something law then there has to be a majority in parliament to pass a law...and most sensible people see angling as catching something to eat or put back unscathed.....Countryside alliance clutch at straws to protect what they deem interference from townies, like protecting rural shops, post offices and pubs, yet still shop at the big supermarkets, bank online and drink at home....
"And I looked, and behold'a pale horse; and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with hi, and power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword and with hunger, and with the beasts of the earth"

totally agree with ya red5 and as far as fish are concerned one of the most healthy brain foods. there are even some vegitarians who will agree. if these people from the countryside alliance ate some they might think before they acted as there brain might be in gear. i have had and still have friends who are anti something or other and that is all they go on about, it gets boring after a while and no matter what you say to them they never listen and are never wrong, its like talking to a brick wall

                  cheers

lol bri, anti, anti, anti. for instance fox hunting. i personally am aginst it but dont go on and rant about it, but how much money and resorses were wasted bringing it in when there are more important issues in this country to deal with. i had a bad day on wed and was p***ed off with most things that breathed in my direction, but i could put a list out at what i am anti about if that makes sense. it just seems there are more groups out there with nothing better to do than stop something or put spanners in the works for the majority of who just want to get on with there lives. i wont go on as my mood is better today
