  • Pc experts help needed, very desperate

I have lost from the PC the first three chapters of the new book.
    Around 20,000 words.
I have no idea how, last thing I deleted was some duplicate photos.
Have done a system restore and a search but still nothing.
I believe that it is impossible to completely delete a file from the hard drive.
Can anyone tell me how to search for the file, it represents a huge amount of work so any help would be greatly appreciated

Do you have norton antivirus with the back up activated, it backs your files up to another drive so you can access them from there ?

Have you tried looking in your deleted items folder (the one on your desktop) right click on the file you want and hit restore. It goes back to where it was before you deleted it.
Unless of course you typed all that work and didn't save it before closing down the programme you were using, in that case it's gone forever.

You need to show hidden files and folders and also show system protected folders. There is a folder pops up that shows all deleted data. Even deleted bin data goes in there.
        Might help ???

            .

if you have already done a system restore, theres no chance of getting them back now.

you could search for a data recovery program and see if you can pull them from the harddrive, as even though they are deleted and system restore has been done, the only hope now is a data recovery program.

            hope this helps

I agree for the most part with kenny. There are data recovery specialists out there if you are prepared to pay a couple of hundred quid. Id advise you not to use your machine at all to prevent the previously used disk space being overwritten. You have no way of knowing when that might happen, so don't use it. Use another machine to find a data recovery specialist on the Web, then employ their services if it's really valuable to you. Don't do a system restore, defrag or Disk cleanup if you want to get it back, and don't put any software, new files, photos, music or films on there until you have it back.
              Good luck mate.

Cheers all, however from advice of others i have downloaded recovery software and of course have used machine.
Think it is a case of a rewrite as dont have £200 going spare for this.

Try giving them a call, it may be cheaper than that, and all may not be lost
