if its came up with the fuel level sensor input fault then i would be looking around the tank area and/or wiring leading to the sensor. If its showing on the dash that theres low fuel then the engine ecu(computer) will reduce the amount of fuel available to the engine so as to conserve fuel and acting as if in limp home mode. It makes sense as the fault only occured after you filled up therefore moving the floating sensor within the tank and creating the fault.
ps my original thought was blocked diesel particulate filter but the would depend upon the age of the car as they have only been about for 3-5 years.
