Sorry lads but once you say things like \"I hate the French\", \".....doesn\'t mean I have to like the horrible buggers.....\" and \"I don\'t like the French either\", any credence to your argument goes out of the window.

How is it possible to hate an entire nation?......mind you we\'ve had it happen before and it still continues - under the banner of \"ethnic cleansing\".

I\'m English - doesn\'t mean I like ALL English people - but just because I don\'t like SOME English people, doesn\'t mean I hate the English.

I live in South Shields - doesn\'t mean I like ALL the people who live in South Shields - but just because I don\'t like SOME of them, doesn\'t mean I hate everybody from South Shields.

I work in the Town Hall - doesn\'t mean I like ALL those who work in the Town Hall - but just because I don\'t like SOME of them, doesn\'t mean I hate everybody who works there.

    Etc, etc, etc, etc,

The use of such generalised phrases as those mentioned above, in the 1st paragraph, only serve to highlight the users OWN ignorance.

So, anybody got the answer to how it is possible to hate an entire nation?......and answer without sounding like Hitler?

I\'m sorry TC, but if somebody doesn\'t like a nation of people, who are you to tell them that they are wrong to do that? In your eyes, they\'re wrong, but its their belief, and their opinion, to which they are entitled to.

To say that we\'re ignorant for having our own beliefs, is in my opinion, ignorant. I believe what I believe. I believe there\'s no god, I believe I don\'t like the French and I believe that I love fishing. Why can\'t I have my beliefs without being called ignorant because of what YOU think????

            i did say but lol

i dont hate them ,nor do i dislike them ,i do dislike there attitude towards the english

but then its a double sided blade \"we hate them so in return they hate us\" ,
being painted with the same brush as a minority (french or english) is bound to get a few backs up,they view all english as antisocial we view the french as ignorant etc etc (just examples) chirac aside most the french are most likely nice people (my view) and i dare say theres a few french folks think the english are ok

we live in modern times and need to adjust attitudes or age old hatreds are never going change and without change there can never be any progress

we just have to look within our own borders for examples ,english V welsh ,english V scottish, ,english V irish or vice versa

or further afield ,australian attitudes towards the english whinging poms or the US attitude towards the limeys

we aint well liked worldwide and i wonder why ?

maybe becouse of our attitude towards everyone else

I didn\'t say it was \"wrong\" Davy.....I asked the question \"How is it possible to hate an entire nation?\"

I also didn\'t say that people were \"ignorant for having their own beliefs\".....I said that making such generalised comments was ignorant - in much the same way that Rory pointed out a blokes ignorance in Big Brother.......\"Did you hear that Derek on Big Brother saying the North East is a backward place\"..........would you not consider Derek as ignorant of the North East?

I\'m over the moon Derek said that, because as long as he actually thinks that we won\'t have to suffer the likes of him polluting the North East

Could be worse, he could be french as well

TC, I made the statement that I dont like the french either, That is not a statement that i dont like or hate a whole nation. Its just yhat i have never met a french person that i do like and untill I do meet one that i like i shall cotinue to say I dont like the french and that does not make me ignorant. I can recall a few posts on this site when Macams have said they hate magpies and magpies have said they hate macams. does that make a lot of NESA members ignorant?
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible,
but P*****g everyone off is a piece of cake.

Sorry, Mike......I was gonna use the Newcastle / Sunderland rivalry analogy, as there have been MANY topics over the years about macums hating maggies and vice versa, but I assumed (maybe wrongly), that that was just friendly rival banter.

Back to your statement, \"I don\'t like the French either\"........maybe I misinterpreted what you said, but I think most people reading it would have read it the same way.....ie the French as a nation. It wasn\'t until your last post where you qualified your statement by saying that your view was based on those French people you have met, which is a different matter altogether.
