  • Lions v All Blacks

I said on the day the squad was picked it was the wrong one and so it proved today. A team with a huge ponderous forward pack, designed only to defend was always going to come unstuck against the AB's and unstuck they came. Against forwards with skill the Lions could only dream of(Taylor's pick up off his boot straps and Reid's wonderous offload for 2 of the tries are perfect examples). Apart from some line-out steals they were second best in every other department. The risky "dynamic" back three selected "paid off", in the scoring on a quite superb try, but they were posted missing for two of the tries and defensively they were truly awful.

The post match talk of missed chances and "things they can fix" is delusional. The AB's had only played together once this year before today and the they will be better next Saturday after today's workout. Apart from the opening moments and 10 minutes either side of halftime the Lions were never in the game.

I predict next week the Lions will be on the wrong end of a 20 plus margin scoreline and the following week they will get an absolutely fearful hammering.

agree Mark and the AB's lost some of their first choice players early, have to be some changes especially in the forwards think Lawes should be brought back and Itoje on from the start he could even go in the back row, when you think of Whitelock and Rittallick as locks made Kruis and Jones look like old style locks push shove and nothing else. I thought Daly was quite fast but that Ione, well he left him standing.

Daley is pretty quick for a centre but was shown up against a proper wing... Highlights playing people out of position against the worlds best. I also think kruis got shown up a bit mainly due to AWJ not turning up to the game at all. I wouldn't disgard Kruis totally but it needs a total rethink in the pack. You won't bully NZ so go for a dynamic set of forwards with a bit of gas and see how you get on. Itoje and Lawes have got to feature. I'd also try and find a spot for Tipuric on the bench as the lad has good speed for a back row and good feet for when things open up.

The old Wales 'Warrenball' approach has led to one defeat so far... Let's see what he's got in his locker!!

I would even take lawes as a bench player. Thing is, NZ are all solid at the basics which is where they set the foundations... They beat you in almost every position with their athleticism and dynamism. We have some incredible athletic and dynamic players, trust them to play. If you try and bully NZ you will lose. It was the SA game plan for many years. Whilst SA beat everyone else they were maybe only on par with NZ.

Woodward said today it wasn't the players that lost but the game plan and I agree to a large extent with that.... With a couple of changes I still think north is a big game player as well... Williams on the wing and Daley at fullback?
