I.D. Cards

I am not against ID cards in fact i am all for every person in the country and entering the country even on holiday having one and even giving a sample of their DNA. But two Q spring to mind, what if you do not buy one & if the Governement wants everyone to have one why do they not pay for them.

We already have ID cards and pay for them. Why do we need these new and improved ones (\"Oh my passport isn\'t worth the paper it\'s printed on Officer, sorry about that it\'s got the queens name on it and all that. What? You think my photo driving licence that matches up with the info on your foolproof computer isn\'t sufficient to identify me as the driver of this vehicle\")

i dont want one and i aint paying for one

i have a driving licence/passport /NI card ,more than enough ID,i look in the mirror every morning and i know who i am and what ive done or havent done

why should i give them my fingerprints ,blood sample and retinal print ?
have i commited a crime ? no,whatever happened to human rights ?have i not got the right to say no i dont want an id card ?most likely not just like i wont have the right to smoke in public ,like i said where will it end

sorry Bri i would gladly give a sample of my dna for a data bankand i think everyone should just think the innoccent would have nothing to fear and if anybody committed a crime simply check the dna and they would be caught. Must be awful having someone close murdered and there being no chance of them being caught. Just hopefully in a momment of madness i dont do anything silly, even then if i did i deserve to be punished. I am one of those that think that a dna data base would certainly cut crime or at least improve catch rates. The human rights arguement does not wear with me i am afraid.

Alan, this definiton of crime has fuzzy edges. Us lot know what real crimes are, Robbery, Mugging, Random acts of violence, criminal damage, threatening and bullying behaviour, sexual abuse and the rest. ID cards would have little or no effect on this IMO. It\'s the crimes created by politicians that we have to worry about. A few years ago it was an accepted right that workers could strike and show solidarity with colleagues in general. It is now illegal through an act of Parliament and you are now a criminal for doing something that at one time was almost the duty of all working people. It is now illegal for more than 6 people (?) to gather together and listen to repetitive beats on land not licensed for the purpose. A situation caused by a bit of irresponsible behaviour in the early 90\'s but now enshrined in law. A crime in general is something that is deemed to be unnaceptable by the state. We believe it\'s criminal that people are allowed to ring us up at all times of day and night with fraudulent offers of cheap stuff. It\'s criminal that very wealthy and above ground companies can spam our e-mail boxes with offensive garbage etc. etc. etc. But it\'s not against the law. Laws change, the info on our cards or data they hold on us doesn\'t.

Great question Alan. However My question would have been Why are we going to be FORCED to buy them and what happens if we don\'t.

Sorry Alan, but I\'ve got to disagree.

Basically, what the Govt are wanting to introduce in a licence to exist.

It\'s not like a TV licence.......you can chose to have a TV or not.

It\'s not like a driving licence......you can chose to drive or not

The proposal that EVERYONE living in this country MUST have one AND pay to have one, is nothing less than a mandatory licence to have the right to exist.

So what about the Govts\' assertion that the proposed ID cards are a way of cracking down on terrorism?........utter garbage. They have hyped up the \"threat\" of terrorism to smooth the way for the ID card introduction. Remember the \"imminent danger\" we were in of having Iraqi nukes, etc land on us in a matter of minutes?.......... what nukes?........????

Seems to me that this Govt relies on whipping up the country into a frenzy over \"imminent danger\" of terrorist attack to make us believe that what they are doing is right and for our protection.
It also seems to me that it is our OWN devious, dictatorial and power crazy Govt. we need protecting from.
