I think sunderland are up for a 10 stretch, as for toon, obviously need to get a few quality players in or they will end up back in that horrible, terrible, miserable rotten second division

With relegations left right and centre for north east teams this season, I’m glad to see toon up and as champions.

Hope yous smash the premier league next season!

ashley say's rafa can have every penny from promotion and any player sale's, looking good if he stick's to his word.

be interesting to know how much that actually is Davey, I think they only get about 10m from the championship as prize and fund, all teams get this I think, but does it include any money from a parachute fund, tv rights etc. just seems a very open unspecific statement

Reading Ashley’s statement, from an accountant’s perspective, I think what he is saying in a nutshell is anything left over after all running costs….plus, anything that’s left in the club’s pot from previous season net total. Basically, Rafa has his hands on all the dosh the club generates, with not a single penny coming from Ashley’s personal wealth, including his other buisnesses.

All that said, I’d say we are looking at around 80 million with a net “transfer warchest” for actual fees on players+agents of 60million. Lets say he has the full 80 million to spend on players for arguments sake, that’s not a lot these days…is it? But enough to survive, hopefully.

Personally I didn’t think much of Newcastle this season, despite winning the league. I don’t agree with all this mid-table premier league team calibre stuff. I don’t think they are much better than the teams currently in/around the relegation zone.

For a club like Newcastle, you have to say the only players you’d want to keep in a premier league team are Shelvey, Elliott, Perez…Ritchie & Gayle will hopefully step-up to the PL proper this time and others like Hayden hopefully make the step-up successfully.
There’s a lot of championship quality there. It seemed like every time I watched the Newcastle highlights reel, even when they won a game 2-0, 3-0, the opposition still created multiple opportunities and carved open Newcastle, but due to lack of quality, couldn’t finish. In the Prem they won’t be getting away with this.

Anyway hope I’m utterly wrong and look a fool, all the best to Newcastle, I’ll be cheering them next season!

completely agree that only a few of nufc player's are good enough to stay next season, on top of that 60/80million there will also be a few free transfer's aswell, rafa's been around long enough now, he'l be talking to all his contact's, interesting article the other day about free transfer's, and 3 name's mentioned could all do a job, john terry, cesc fabrigas and jermain defoe.....!
                        time will tell.

davey i have said all year to the lads at work that we should have gone for defoe before sunderland got him . But stumbling block would be wages that fat ash has in place for older players

in order to get them 3 players they would have to take a wage cut even with a free transfer
but may be viable if only a 1 year contract to help us find our feet for 1st year

on the plus side rafa is an internationally well respected football manager of great success with many contacts on the global scene so if anyone can attract a few decent players to the club then he's the guy, surely cashley realises this and knows he's got to dig deep to keep the toon in the top flight and get even more dosh in his big fat poke

that's exactly the point, and it was actually stan collimore who said it , anyway, get them on a free, 1 year deal and with there experience settle it down and build around them, the way i see it is ashley may have even seen that if nufc make a decent run up the league and maybe a cup run someone with true ambition might buy the club and back the manager all the way.....!
