  • Peugeot 206 - Car opinions required

Any petrol heads/car dealers with a view on the above car?

Seen a peach condition 56 plate 206 Estate with very low mileage

Been for a test drive and gearbox seems clunky and loose in comparison to our knackered Corsa (Corsa is Hydraulic whereas 206 is linkage)

But even taking into account the different style of gearbox I still have reservations...

If anyone has an opinion I'd appreciate it
    Ooh a new vid!

Daughters got a 206 hdi mate, fair enough it's y reg but not megga miles, like a bag of hammers. I would get a focus mate or better still a mondeo. I just flogged my mondeo after a while advertising, full zetec spec, silky smooth, 2004, 70k, immaculate condition and could only get 1500 for it. that's all they go for and the guy got one hell of a motor. Thing I didn't realise is motors don't rust these days but they still get old, bit like fisherman like

If its a 1.6 HDi keep away! If its the 2.0 HDi then your on to a winner if its got FSH with it aswell? Low miles as in very low miles, if thats the case who is the owner and does he/she only do short trips in it? All drive belts should be changed by now. Check for blue/white smoke on cold start up and when warm also when you put your foot down? Gearboxes are 5hit and the linkages play up, could be gearbox oil if its never been done and only done town driving most its life, will have increased wear and tear on the box.

Most Petrol engines are fine, same problems with gearboxes etc. If you plan on doing long commutes in the estate either go for the 1.6/2.0 Petrol or 2.0 HDi.

Check all electrics work as they should like you should with every French car LOL. Good luck.

Can't go wrong with ford diesels mate, got a couple of focus diesels in the pool at work and there fine and have canny go about them, personally though I'd go for a petrol job but then again I don't do that many miles. If i had to use the motorways for a living and was up and down them like wh*res draws then it would be the diesel
