    Hello,
Just watching the news about the Alcan smelter closing, a real sad day for the North East.
Like many of us, I've been made redundant twice now and it's not nice.

There is some hope of a reprieve for the power station.

I like Lynemouth beach, I know it's a very industrial landscape but in it's own way it can be very picturesque and I hope the power station stays.

    Regards Ian

      alcan

horrible news but was expected due to the labour government introducing a enviroment friendly smelter licence and tinto not prepared to pay for it,then you have local mp on the news saying how sad it was even though he was part of the government that closed the smelter

it stinks m8, just as over the years it`s always been the north east, ship yards, mines, steel works, mills, even the amalgermated councils to save money cost north east jobs while southern jobsworth`s are on bonus`s to cut these corners.
just last month rio tinto announced they had found in one of there mines in australia a huge diamond worth 63 million pound. but the company can`t afford to upgrade alcan . ! . boll*cks. if a had 250,000pound a would spend an evening with david cameron the *****r.
        a feel better now .

          Alcan smelter works

Its a damned disgrace the way the goverment is closing everything in the northeast and yes the power station should stay and i feel for the people that worked for alcans especialy those with familys.
