  • Ragworms and other baits

Well we have been doing quite a few sessions and it's starting to cost a bit at the tackle shops for our baits and that's when they have them in Ragworms, lug, mussels, sand eel ,peeler crab and other bits we normally take a good mix up between 4 of us

We are after getting our Own baits could people kindly add some tips, hints on how to dig rag worm and lug and where to find them, what other worms can be used for sea fishing bait

Sand eel we normally buy the small ones where can you catch theese and how?

Peeler crab I know that the peel 3 times a year but could someone point me in the right direction on what months theese peel in the north east/Redcar area where are the best places to find them are they any good spots around near Redcar saltburn hartlePool area's to collect them also in the river tees I have seen tyres do they get washed up river? I have seen tyres around the river tees area I want to go put some out any advice? Will be a great help

Any advice will be much appreciated cheers ash

Weo got our own mussels from saltburn and steamed them open but tbh they where small still got used over a few sessions

No locations mentioned but peeler will be available from river marks about now but wouldnt raid anyones tyres so i reccomend putting your own tyres out or just try lifting rocks etc to collect peeler, For digging worms just have a look around your local beaches for lug casts or muddy river estuarys for rag, Personally i wouldnt steam open mussle as it partially or fully cooks them and will be nowhere near as good for bait.Your best bet is just to get out there and and watch for people digging rather than ask on forums as info is hard to come by and people will not disclose there digging locations.
          Hope this helps.
