  • Sorry lads but who wants to be a soldier

this was in the metro newspaper the other day,

i'm ashamed to be called a British citizen

Married couple driven to commit suicide by utter poverty

An army veteran and his wife committed suicide after becoming destitute and being left to ‘fall through the social services gap’.

Mark and Helen Mullins are thought to have killed themselves at their rundown home after being reduced to despair as they struggled to live off just £57.50 a week.

The couple, who suffered a series of health and benefits setbacks and had their 12-year-old daughter taken into care, were found lying side by side.

Friends said they were let down by social services.

Military man: Mark Mullins said he found ‘Civvy Street’ difficult

Kervin Julien, from the Salvation Army, said: ‘This couple were simply allowed to slip through the net with tragic consequences. They just wanted support. This should never have happened.’

Mr Mullins, 48, worked in the Army as a PE instructor but fell on hard times after leaving the service, admitting he struggled to cope with ‘Civvy Street’.

His wife, also 48, suffered from learning difficulties and was deemed unfit to look after her daughter last year.

They walked 10km (six miles) a day to a soup kitchen, collecting free vegetables to cook into a broth on a camping gas stove.

They stored it in plastic bags in the shed because they didn’t have a fridge in their council home.

Mr Mullins told a TV interviewer last year how the pair were ‘living hand to mouth’ after struggling for 14 months to win some benefits for Mrs Mullins.

They were terrified that she was about to be sectioned, having long suffered from learning disabilities.

On Thursday last week, their bodies were found at their home in Bedworth, Warwickshire.

The cause of death has yet to be determined.

Mr Julien said yesterday: ‘Mark was absolutely devoted to Helen and didn’t want to be separated from her.’

Nuneaton and Bedworth borough council said it was ‘saddened’ by the deaths.

Deputy leader Tony Lloyd said: ‘We are working with the police and therefore there is very little we can release about the couple at this time.’

Whoever has let them slip through the net want to hang there heads .
Christ i feel physically sick, kin goverment.

thats the benefit of being part of the european union, anyone can come here from another member country and work ...or claim benefits..

        on the flipside

we can go and live in any member state and work........ or starve as few countries have our level of state welfare..

just makes you want to leave eh....

but you can't be outspoken and say this in public as then you'd be tarred and feathered as a "racist"

and we can't show the gov how stupid they are letting this happen...

charity begins at home.....lets keep the billions being spent on "sh*te" abroad..

        rant over......

shocking, but unfortunatelt as always it will happen again, and again, and again, when are these in power going to get a grip instaed of pansying around Brussels, to think they went cap in hand to ask if they would change their mind about the football team wearing poppies, Cameron should of just told them to "go away" our soldiers need more respect and help from those in power.

cant say what id like to say but you are getting a bit closer to what the problem is.racist and political.
I'm no royalist there just milking the system also,
its not funny but we can call our royals/government any sort of name we like but cant call an immigrant anything as its illegal, totaly wrong.
                  it reminds me of this.

This, apparently is an actual letter received by the UK Passport
                  Office.

                  Dear Sirs,

I'm in the process of renewing my passport, and still cannot believe this. How is it that Sky Television has my address and telephone number and knows that I bought a bleeding satellite dish from them back in 1987, and yet the Government is still asking me where I was bloody born and on what date.

For Christ's sake, do you guys do this by hand? My birth date you have on my pension book, and it is on all the income tax forms I've filed for the past 30 years. It is on my National Health card, my driving licence, my car insurance, on the last eight damn passports I've had, on all those stupid customs declaration forms I've had to fill out before being allowed off the plane over the last 30 years, and all those insufferable census forms, too.

Would somebody please take note, once and for all, that my mother's name is Mary Anne, my father's name is Robert and I'd be abso- king-lutely astounded if that ever changed between now and when I die!!!!!!

I apologise, I'm really pi ed off this morning. Between you an' me, I've had enough of this bulls t! You send the application to my house, then you ask me for my fking address!!!!

What is going on? Do you have a gang of Neanderthal rrrrsoles workin' there? Look at my damn picture. Do I look like Bin Laden? I don't want to dig up Yasser Arafat, for sakes. I just want to go and park my arse on some sandy beach somewhere. And would someone please tell me, why would you give a whether I plan on visiting a farm in the next 15 days? If I ever got the urge to do something weird to a chicken or a goat, believe you me, you'd be the last ing people I'd want to tell!

Well, I have to go now, 'cause I have to go to the other end of the poxy city to get another ing copy of my birth certificate, to the tune of £30. Would it be so complicated to have all the services in the same spot to assist in the issuance of a new passport the same day?? Nooooooooooooo, that'd be too damn easy and maybe make sense. You'd rather have us running all over the in' place like chickens with our heads cut off, then have to find some rrrrsole to confirm itseally me on the damn picture - you know, the one where we're not allowed to smile?! (bureaucratic ' morons) Hey, do you know why we couldn't smile if we wanted to? Because we're totally ticked off

                  Signed

                  An Irate Citizen.

P.S. Remember what I said above about the picture and getting someone to confirm that it's me? Well, my family has been in this country since 1776 .......... I have served in the military for something over 30 years and have had full security clearances over 25 of those years, enabling me to undertake highly secret missions all over the world.

......... However, I have to get someone 'important' to verify who I am — you know — someone like my doctor, WHO WAS BORN AND RAISED IN xxxxxxx PAKISTAN

Very well said Mate, and to think Cameran & Co can find another £48 Billion to bail out other countries. It makes you sick.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible,

when you think when the DVLA want your road tax, you fill the form in on line, they know where you live, that you are insured, and your car has an MOT, and your licence probably will have your photo on, and a few days later tax disc through the door. We renewed our passports before the cost went sky rocketing, and yes we had, well you name it we sent it, sending the kitchen sink the next time "without postage"

Put your life on the line, come home and get treat worse than an immigrant or a smack head, benefit scammers .
Fact ,the suicide rate of ex sevice men is climbing, its been going on for years and still very little safeguard measures are employd. There must be a service directly dealing with this cause.
Im a big fan of all the charitys out there ,but at the end of the day the the government should be putting there hands in their pockets and sorting this out.
