When I was in my teens around that time, there was a guy used to sell second hand stuff from his house somewhere around Monkseaton / West Monkseaton way I think - never knew his real name but I think he was known as Fatty Buster.

Cannot recall him but do recall getting fishing bait from the vending machine outside Temples in Whitley Bay. Late 60s/early 70s ??? Was so handy.

the lad used to have a room full of good used gear you could buy or swop or he would offer you a canny price for good used gear.
at that time I used to get most of my gear and bait from temples sadly now gone they used to be open from 6 am on a weekend also got my first 12ft beach caster from there temples, later got a cracking ABU beach caster of the same lad.
I used to get the bus to newcastle meet my m8 at the train station then down to whitley bay on the train walk to temples pick up the bait then walk down to the beach.

I cannot remember anyone in Monkseaton selling gear from their home. There was a shop half way down the the Esplanade for a while. Called Whitley Bait and Tackle, it sold bait and a mixture of second hand tackle. A rotund bloke used to run it and was full of tall stories about all the fish that he'd caught the night before.
