  • caravan sites ???

Having just bought a twin axle caravan, i am looking to hopefully put it on a site for the summer.

Originally i was thinking somewhere like Oban, however have now decided i would prefer it to be a bit closer as i would tend to use it more, so approx 3 hours drive from newcastle somewhere in south west scotland for the fishing, anybody know of any sites that would allow a touring van to stay for say 3 months.

I have been having a look in the caravan books and Brighouse in kirkcudbright looks a nice site, but have never fished there before as i would normally head for the Mull, any idea how much i might expect to pay for a long term pitch.

Must be on a decent site as my parents might use it through the week.

Would agree with the Sands of Luce recommendation. Don't use a caravan but use it regularly with a tent and the kids love it. If I had the cash and it was a little closer I would have a static there. Wish it was an hour away

I have stayed at the sands of Luce a few times, nice site right on the beach, good doggie and bass beach as well.

If you take a BBQ lots of wild rabbits running around the site

Its only about 10 miles drive from the mull and only 4 miles if that to a slip way and harbour for a boat.

          Thanks for the replies everyone.

I will have a look at the site on line today, i forgot to mention that i am hoping to sell my boat at royal quays and buy a smaller one i can tow up there and do some fishing, likewise i fancy using the new boat in oban so a caravan midway would break up the journey.

As soon as i sell my boat or take a part ex against it, something like an Arvor/Quicksilver 18 to 20 foot boat with an outboard on the back, scotland here i come!!!.

There's a site between kirkinner and Garlieston owned and run by a couple from Alnwick. I could have a word if you're interested as it's just down the road and I know them quite well.

Also, I was fishing down at Burrowhead the other day and there's plenty room there for tourers and boats but not sure what they'd charge for a long term stay. Very handy for launching at the isle of whithorn slip

Or if you're not bothered about being on a site and dont mind the smell of farmyards I know a couple of secure places that would work out much cheaper than a caravan site, let me know if you're interested

Thanks for the kind offer Graham, i would need to have it on a site as my parents may want to use it through the week...at the moment i am looking for as many options and costs as possible, as hopefully i want to site it back end of next week.

The problem i seem to be facing is not many sites seem to want to tie their pitches up for the summer.

If you don't mind finding out prices etc for me i would really appreciate it.

                Bob you have a pm

I'll have a word at the weekend and see what the prices are. Do you want your caravan and boat stored over winter or just the summer months?
                Regards, Graham
