absolutely dispicable the way Burgess has been treated, brought into the England team long before he was ready, played out of posistion and when England failed he, although he did waht was asked of him, was dumped out the squad, can't blame him, down to the RFU and Lancaster, Woodward is right the RFU is a laughing stock

Couldn't be that he was on a £500,000 contract at Bath, specifically so he could play in the World Cup, couldn't hack the intricacies of the Union game, gets some criticism and has the luxury of a £750,000 buy back from Oz, all down to missing the family? I think he has all the qualities to make it in the Premiere League Alan..........pssssst you don't know him do you? Wouldn't want to bump into him on a dark beach.

Must admit I was just playing Devils Advocate Alan, but the timing of his arrival and departure pose a lot of questions. As for his long term ability, one of the more interesting aspects of this World Cup is how many "outstanding" players have had their weaknesses exposed. Any chink in the armour seems to have been horribly exposed. Would imagine someone new to the game, like Sam, would have more foibles than the rest.

Sonny bill took 24mths before making it into the NZ squad. Sam was thrown in after half a season.... Having been playing different positions for club and country. England coaches are where the blame lies for me. Wasted a very big talent and opportunity. Defiantly would have made it in time but after the abuse he received online and from the 'experts' its no wonder he is going back to where he is loved. All he needed was a bit more time without the pressure cooker of a home World Cup!

a waste of a talent and a waste of four years, look at the progress the Aussies made in a year, look at the progress Japan made in four years, and what about the rest Gorgia etc what happened to England in four years they went backwards

The Aussies brought in an ex-argentine as scrum coach and now look like world beaters Alan. Think there game changed overnight never mind in a year!

Don't know if England have gone backwards but they certainly haven't progressed as quickly as other teams... Which has the same result as other teams move past them. Lets see what the RFU has up its sleeve ....

Sonny Bill is unique but what an athlete Burgess is. League wins that one, pity they can't afford him in Super League
