  • Buying Christmas presents for terminally ill people!

Hey you may think I jest (I do a bit) but a friend of mine has not long to live. Throat cancer late stages, very not fair. He\'s been told in the last 10 weeks
    1. It might be gone again you\'ll be ok for a while.
    2. We could possibly do this and you\'d be ok for a while
    3. Your ****ed, jump in this box.

Over and over again, depending on which doctor thought to say which things. Well I went for the optimistic option and bought the lad a book which I\'d read previously and gave me inspiration and raised my spirits an all that. It\'s ****ing 400 pages long, the man\'s on huge doses of morphine. I didn\'t know! Do you reckon I\'d get me money back under the circumstances? ! Honest though, I\'m playing a lot of Backgammon with the Lad cos it\'s a great game and it takes his mind of dying for bit. They should use that in their advertising. But I mentioned the game rRISK which I know is meant to be very good. Takes ages to play, months.

My mates having his last christmas at our table. Poor ****. He\'ll be alright though in the end.

I really never know whether to take you seriously Ell. If it\'s a true tale then good luck to the lad (and you) cos I don\'t know that I could spend very much time with someone that I knew was about to croak.
Merry Christmas to you both m8.
If all about you are catching fish, cast in their swim !!!

        Ian,

You could have a star named after him

        http://www.starlistings.co.uk/

He may not be around for much longer but that star will be around for a while.

        Best wishes Chris

Thought about that Chris, didn\'t have the donuts to do it though. Even though things are staring him in the face you don\'t like to underline the situation. Lovely thought though M8. Perhaps I should have just got a grip and did it!

hey and to anyone else out there in a similar situation, facing something similar, or caring for someone else Happy Christmas.

Ell you\'re a star. Shine brightly my friend. With good friends like you don\'t need a star named after you. you will linger long in the memory

Have a good one mate, next drinks on me (ok your still waiting for the first one)

Read this post several times and felt obliged to answer.
Ian you never fail to raise some kind of emotion when ever you make a comment on here. Although you usually have the opposite effect of this post and have me crying with laughter.
As Mark has said you are a star mate.

                Jim.

Cheers Jim, be someone else on the board doing exactly the same now or in the near future. Death Innit, gotta deal with it!

I don\'t think our predominantly Christian culture has ever really got to grips with IT though. (Death, that is, not Information Technology). After-life and heaven and re-incarnation, martyrdom, ghosts and Derek Accora. Miracles etc. You live your life and die. The atoms that made up your body at the time are recycled, in the presence of our Sun. Apparently there\'s an Atom of Queen Elizabeth the II in everybodies front room. maths innit!

Err Queen Elizabeth the first. Sorry.

assuming that lizzie II has similar bodily functions to the rest of, we have probably all drank some of her **** at some time and nibbled th odd bit of her poo!

bear that in mind when you watch the queens speech today!!

(slighty more worrying is that we\'ve probably had some of george and tony\'s as well, doubly so as it comes out of both ends of the pair of em)

And if your mates sense of humour is up to it, you could point out to him, that he will be entering your body orally at some time in the rest of your natch, (better to recieve than give)

wonder when the bofinns actually realised that?? Buddha worked it out 6000 years ago!

I went through this two years ago with my dad. It was hard, but you have to keep a brave face for the sake of their sanity.

If they weaken, you have to be there to support them.

Sadly, in the end it was a relief when he died.
I know this sounds callous, but we had all lived with his cancer for three years, and for the last week of his life he was on so much morphine he didn`t know where he was.

well this year has been a bit of a bummer for me and my family
my wife debra developed breast cancer at easter
she had an operation to remove her breast
                            she had chemotherapy
and is currently going through radiotherapy
her last session is on the 29th december

then she has to go through an other operation in april to remove the other breast

then hopfully we can get our lives back in order
                            its no picnic

i feel for you ell mate

                            take care
