wifi at home

At home we have several computers ( laptops and desktops ), the speeds don't seem to be that fast when loading certain sites.

So the question is, where possible are the desktops likely to be faster hardwired to the router thingy ( apple time capsule ), 2nd question is, is upgrading to virgins 50mb worth the extra as we would never play games or download movies etc, would it make the wifi faster !!

We have several desktops, laptops, consoles etc connected and are only on 10mb BB but don't have any trouble with web browsing, but I do have the desktops and ps3s hard wired so you're probably best off routing cables.

Not sure about mac computers but i find regularly having a clean up (temp internet files etc) does help with browser speed.

hard wired will always be better. you're macs have all got gigabit ethernet
a wireless router has only one channel, even ones that claim 54Mb tend to default to the old standard of 11Mb, although if your using an apple wireless router that won't be an issue until you stick a non apple device on the network which will be asking for 802.11b not 802.11g by default, at which point the whole lot switches down. 3 or 4 devices sharing one channel at that speed, will cause traffic jams of data as one waits for the other to pass data its way, so it will slow down. as well as the internet stuff a device has requested, the wifi will also have all the routing traffic whizzing about it from each machine continuously checking for network connectivity, checking protocols etc

if safari has got a bit sluggish its probably become a bit bloated with allt he page previews and stuff it keeps. Safari menu - reste safari and click the following options.

Thanks for the advice, will hard wire the desktops next week and reset the safari........bloody to complicated all this computer mullarky, give me a boiler to fix any day.
