next couple of days, few rabbits and pheasants while there's some meat on em. leave em in the shed they'll be as frozen as they will in the freezer

there's also another rogue deer that won't be seeing christmas from the outside of the oven

officially worse than last winter now (according to me anyway)

just tried to get out, main A689 looks like:

12" or more of powder snow lying across the road - thats since the last plough went through early this morning

wind is blowing it in now, so the village is cut off, we just made it back through in the disco by just charging the snow drifts to get through them

      and its still coming down

Maybe if, say 1 in 5 buses were fitted with studded tyres would this help to break the compacted ice up on the major routes?

one thing to point out is that "normally" we don't suffer this kind of weather in the UK (apart from those in the bundu) so our services aren't set up for it

If we were to start getting 2-3 months of "proper snow" (like we're getting now) on a regular annual basis then we would have cause to make comparison to Russia, Canada and the like...fact of the matter though is that currently these are "freak" conditions

...but I have yet to see a bloody gritter

Gritter and snow plough is going past my place in Pity Me Durham three or four times a day. Side streets are a mare but Durham council seems to be doing a pretty good job of keeping the main roads and bus routes going.

TGW is spot on with his comments, other places expect this kind of weather and are geared up for it, hence no disruption in Canada, Norway etc. We would have to invest millions to cope in a similar way and I can't see that happening for what are still rare bad weather occurances.

Just had another heavy snowfall here in Whitley Bay so fully intend to take my camera for a walk along the seafront at sunrise in the morning.
