I won't do my annual gritting rant just yet - I'll wait until I've had to try and drive to work for a week in these conditions first
Ooh a new vid!

hateful freaking stuff. Main A689 through the dale hasn't seen hide nor hare of a gritter so is impassable this morning and kids off school again.
had dribs and drabs of snow here off and on since the first week of november, there was 6" last weekend!
its how it started last year, bits and pieces through november then into december and dump.... that was it for the next 4 months almost
lots of predictions for it to be the coldest winter in 250 years apparently (some say 1000 years!!!! ). based on the North Atlantic Conveyor cycle being at an an all time low (thats the gulf stream speed and temperature), Sun Spot activity being at an all time low, the icelandic volcano thingy shoving the jet stream a lot further south and the fallout for it still hanging high in the atmosphere blocking out a bit of solar radiation...
should be interesting!

Its great weather lads/lasses, brings winter cod fishing bak to its element.
A remember at the shields open in 2008 when a fished the walkway, it was VERY, VERY frosty. Trying to cast was a pain in the arse, and i eventually had a pain in the arse after casting and going arse over tit!!!
Had a right "white out" here in Whitley Bay earlier tonight for a couple of hours. Stopped now though. Probably about 6/7" of snow here. I live on Whitley Road,a main bus route and there has not been a gritter sighted all day !!!! Buses stopped early and not much moving :-(
