  • That's her away then !!!!!

Well I got there in good time down by the Haven and we had a few light showers and a rainbow

The showers turned into heavy rain and it got very dark and Ark Royal was running late. I knew I would struggle to get decent shots in the gloom :-(

When the Ark Royal finally arrived I really did struggle to get shots. This is the best I could do.

It was sad to see her leave the Tyne for the very last time. The end of an era.

can't quite make out the top one, but anyone wanna have a guess at what the flags on the north pier light are saying?

I'm guessing at some sort of renegade protest

          Your in Danger or something?

I take that back, my flag reading is crap..... it was the first flag that threw me.

            Not a protest at all..

            Just checked my books again.

Ah bollocks, not sure again now, bit like a oil tanker on it's side.

Shields pier was chocker, i pulled up next to the brigade hut just as she past the Groyne. My 3 year old daughter just said wow daddy big ship, planes and helichopters! then said it was too cold. If only she was old enough to understand it all.
It was gud seeing everyone who turned out though, loads of flash bulbs going off on the Groyne and even in the flats over the Tyne on the northside

i thought your arrival photo's captured the majesty of the carrier, and the departure very atmospheric and sad especialy the umberella shot. a great record of the event.
