  • Treasure Hunt! GPS/Satnav/Google Maps search...

    Link to original post: http://www.nesa.co.uk/forums/chat/35...s-ability.html

I've hidden a cache box - small plastic clip lid box. There's a log book and pencil inside (though I'd still bring your own pen/pencil in case you need it). There's a couple of keyrings and a small bag with a few small tackle-box items in for the "First-to-Find" to take (few beads, links, bait-clips and a couple of small sinkers) nothing of value as this is just a trial run and I'm hiding this in an easy to find area.
Simply find it, sign/date the log with your username, swap items for something else low value if you wish to take something, re-hide the box. Return to the NESA website and post a reply in this thread (this thread only please to make it easier to follow) saying you've found it. Easy!

GPS Co-Ordinates can be punched into a hand-held GPS, a sat-nav or just straight into google maps. Using a hand-held should get you to within a few feet of the box. Note it is covered with something so you need to look for it!

    GPS Co-Ordinates: N55 06.458 W001 29.939

Clue: "The Blyth connection's power-cell has a clear view." (cryptic but easy!)

I've made this dead easy to find just so people get the idea and to make it fairer on people without GPS/SatNav. I'll leave it in place until middle of next week then remove the box since it's going to be quite easy for other people to stumble on.

    Enjoy!

I trust you found it then? If so, well done. Yes, it's meant to be a bit of fun for everyone to take part in, not just the members, but their families aswell.

This one was purely to test the waters, we all know what it's like when the tides suck or we've worn out our day-release permits from the family, but for them too this is something to take part in and even if they never want to go fishing they can enjoy.

Come on guys, there's been a load of members here posted that they intend to fish this area or nearby, it really is a doddle to find the box and Iva-Cod-on found it no bother. I made it ludicrously easy to find as a starter concept, it's far easier than true 'geocaching', google maps almost put you on top of it!

Seriously, take yourself, if you're on-route for a session, or take the family if you've just nothing to do and fancy a nice walk with some added purpose - this is the whole idea, something related to fishing/the shores of the NE but not actual fishing and something the family can get into as a group if they want.

I'm trying to put a NESA specific slant on the geocaching concept, to make it fun for us members and at the same time try to spark something that we could do as an RNLI fund raising concept.

Here's a couple of pics of my youngest on his very first geo-caching hunt... he took the GPS and followed the arrow until we found the hidden cache:

geocaching.com is the global website, it's a nice way to fill a walk out or even just a shopping trip, to add a bit of a hide-and-seek to the day! If anyone signs up there, pm me for my geocaching usernam.
