  • Ark Royals last visit to the Tyne

The Ark Royal entering her home port for the last time today 19 Nov 2010. It was a very cold and foggy day as she entered between the River Tyne piers. She is going to be decomissioned

just rubbing salt in the wounds, bringing it back to the Tyne. Nice bit of expensive scrap metal though

and in even more bitter irony, both the chilean and Argentinean navies have expressed an interest

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

You'd have to take her that far out just to find deep enough water to cover her. The Ark Royal is almost twice the size of anything I have coordinates for.

                  Nice pics by the way.

Just out of interest, if she was laid on the sea bed at about 3 miles out sitting upright then the topmost point would almost break surface. She looke to be about 120ft (scaling the sailors as 6ft) and the 5 mile wrecks are only about 150ft deep
there is a lot less depth out there than one can imagine
