        Nice pics Alan, I particularly like the back-lighting in the last one. What make of camera are you using? If you're a Canon man I've got a 100-400 zoom plus an extender you're welcome to borrow - ideal for nice meaty close-ups.

            use a canon eos 300d rebel, have got a sigma 50-500 which I will be using for the close up shots, used the 18-55 for the shots posted.

                Your first shot brought back some scary memories Alan, back when I was a bairn up to my arse in the River Eden trout fishing one of those buggers upstream from me decided to take off. Well the size of them they take some getting airborne - can't have cleared my head by more than a couple of feet

                    some of the cobs are ruddy big things, it came out when me and the grandson just turned two and a big lad, where feeding the swans he looked tiny beside them.
