I have been hearing about some disturbing situations, where a person has been driving along in their car, fully legal, insured etc, and they have been pulled over by the police, as they have driven past a police check point. The car has been highlighted as 'not insured'.
The car in fact may be insured ,but the insurance company has not registered it on the 'MID' database.
The police will then impound the car, as it is their policy now ,to remove as many uninsured vehicles as possible off the road.
Then if it is the weekend, the insurance company cannot be contacted until the monday. Then it can be cleared up, and you can collect the vehicle.
BUT, and this is a big BUT, you will then have to pay storage fees, which are astronomical, £200/£300/£400 or what ever, and you've got to pay it. Then try to get the money back. No chance, and you have done nothing at all wrong.
So check now if your car is registered on the MID database just to be on the safe side.
It only takes 2 minutes and is free to check, so do it now .
This is the website.
