went to frazers on saturday to purchase a new ugly stik boat GX2, the rod I was after the 20/30lb class but brian told me he was out of stock as there had been a mad rush on boat rods for some reason., may have some in next week.
so I had a ride over to the new moon fleet shop in biker they had a one in the rack £54.99 had good look at the rod, 10 mins before any member of staff bothered to ask if they could assist, asked if there was any discount for cash payment for this rod as had the money in my hand I was told definate NO to my supprise.
the same rod in whitbly angling surpplies is £41.99 for the GX2 20/30 lb class, also on some other fishing web sites. even a 10% discount for cash would have been better than nowt at all
I always tend to support my local tackle shops if buying rods reels and other tackle.
I have always found that frazers will always try to give you the best deal possible on rods reels and clothing for cash payment.

Did you not ask if they could price match Whitby angling supplies? I would assume most tackle shops would.

I suppose it depends on who you speak to if its a member of staff they will probably say no but if it was the manager or the owner it would probably be another story on pricing dose this not depend on what it costs the tackle shops to purchase said rods

Fair enough that alot of people, including myself say support your local tackle shops but if offered a substantial saving by buying online how can you not?

The last reel I bought was £100 online, I couldn't get it for less than £120 at any local shop and I tried them all, this isn't the first time either.

Regarding haggling in the shop, you shouldn't have to in my opinion, the price should be set competitively in the first place.

I dont think they would have matched the whitby price as thats a hell of a drop from £54.99 to £41.99.
I did say the rod was in whitby angling shop for £41.99 negative response.
phoned moon fleet in gateshead today they have one in stock at £54
          again no discount for cash.
as stated I tend to purchase most of my fishing gear from frazers always found brian and the lads to be very helpful.

There won't be much discount for the amount above as its not a large sum, most shops have a charge for using card machines from the issuer of around 1-5% so the more you spend the more they will knock off for cash, however most shops will price match, internet prices are lower as there over heads are smaller, i always buy local but like mentioned earlier somethings just can't be matched so i buy online.

Most tackle shops used to give NESA members 10% off but times are hard.

I bought two of those a while back, the 12/20 and the 20/30 from Fazers, they
gave me £5 off because one of the rod bags did the right specs on it.
I also got my 10 percent off.
                I find the service brilliant.

Dave I have used moonfleet before and asked for them to price match which they have done to their credit. Unfortunatly some of the online stores don't have a 'real' physical shop that needs paying for aswell so your local store will always tend to be more expensive than the online stores.... Certainly nothing wrong with Frasers either! Hang on a week and get what you need from Brian!

I see two of the top 20 highest grossing companies on ebay UK in the last year are angling suppliers. It is the way of the world these days and it must be a nightmare for shops to try and keep trading.
