  • York Races

Off to York this saturday for the races with the lads from 5 a side. Trouble is I havent got a clue about horses and every bookie looks to me like Arthur Daley or worse. Always limit myself to a fiver a race but never had a winner. When not fishing does anyone on here have the odd flutter / have a great tip or a lucky pin to stick blindly into the list of runners ?

Honestly wish I was going fishing instead but got to do it for the team On the plus side we do have an indian booked an hour or two before the train back

    Help

I was brought up with horse racing and worked on a racing yard from 2003 to 2006 at station town/wingate.
Tbh mate ive seen people with no idea come away with more money than the so called top punters.
The law of averages says stick to horses in and around the top of the market, check the papers for the fancied horses and you should have enough luck to pull something out.
Pricewise in the racing post always does very well.
Another thing i look for is in the Racing post check the longest travellers, this shows you which trainers have sent horses the greatest distance and if that trainer has only sent 1 horse all the way to york from down south then yu find they are never too far away.
There are 1000's of things to look at, but these are just a few simple pointers what are easy to remember.

Hope you get a few winners, nothing better than a day at the races. few drinks and hopefully a few winners, one thing i always do is like you mentioned, keep a sum of money in mind and bet the same amount each race, never feel tempted to put more on because you think the horse is a certainty or have been told so.

      good luck

Cheers lads I will take all the ideas on board, some good advice there. If the weather is nice it should be a good day out. Will use the hour train ride for some serious analysis and pretend I know what I am doing like the rest of the lads

I will post a catch I mean results post and let you all know how it went. Fingers crossed.

        Thanks

Great day out, great company and a lovely day if a bit too hot and humid.

Unfortunately I was the only person in the group not to get a winner. One second and a third but was only betting on a win not each way

Trawled the internet all friday night finding tips and was sure one of them would do me a favour.

          Always next year
