Ell / Mark - Scart Leads

With you\'s two being involved within the Audio/Video/Computer industries, is it possible to get a scart lead longer than 3m.
If this isn’t possible what are the alternatives to scart without compromising picture quality, Do A/V leads make that much difference to the picture?

Any Ideas.

i know im not ell or mark lol but aitkin bros in newcastle ( highbridge)will make them up for you although im sure you can buy them just not sure where

scart leads carry an analogue sytem, so theoretically you should be able to go a good bit more than 3m. If I were going to go for something very longI\'d make it up myself and use premium cable, as the drop in signal strength over a long run might prove problematic

25 metres should be ok with off the shelf cables.

the theoretical maximum recomended run for analogue cables is around 100metres, but only with the very best cable and connectors, when selecting cable the thing to look for is transmission loss figures, these should be as low as possible, anything over 0.2db per metre and you will notice a major drop in quality over a long run.

standard a/v leads are to all intents and purpose the same as scart - just analogue, scart seperates the video compents tho.

what you doing with it?? (being nosey!)

you can get wireless video repeaters with a range of 100 metres or so, which will allow you to make a wirelss connection but they an be iffy depending on whats in between the 2 devices (ie thick walls!)

Cheers Bri, I\'d never thought of Aitkin Brothers, High Bridge is the one down the lane off the Bigg Market isn\'t it. I used to go there years ago, are they still in the same place.

Mark, Its for a plasma TV I\'m fitting, The only leads I have are 3m, I shouldn\'t need any thing over 7m so going by what your saying buying 10m leads should be OK?. I always try to hide cables though and scarts are a bit bulky for this job. Do you think A/V leads would do the same job and give the same picture quality as the scarts, OR is there an alternative?.

hi marc, nice to see you back......for the scart leads maplins have 10 meter ones in stock,thats where i got mine,they were about 35 quid each if i remember correctly

Hellooooo Bobbly, Havn\'t seen you for ages mate. Hope your keeping well. Problem with Maplins is every time I go in there I end up coming out with loads of tools and gadgets I don\'t need. I had to give my RS account up because of that. I havn\'t been down to the RQ\'s for ages, next time your down there give me a shout for a bit of catching up. at 7m av leads would work ok and you\'d get a much higher quality lead for the price you\'d pay for a 10m scart.

Buy some decent oxygen free shielded coax cable and goold plated plugs and make you\'re own up, probably cost less than a scart, but you would loose any functionality between video/dvd players etc

Scarts are bulky, but an good av plug will probably have a taller stand off than a scart

Aitkin Brothers is still in the same place although i might suggest that you buy the bits and have mark make em for you lol he seems to know his beans erm scarts

There\'s an electronics shop in Cullercoats, I got a 5m scart there and a 5m extender (Male / Female ends)
