  • Fireworks !

Anyone noticed yet how the new law on setting off fireworks in the street has had an effect (!!!!!!!!). I live in Whitley Bay and it might as well be central Baghdad. The latest stunt is to place a banger into a plastic milk bottle and blow it to smithereens in a back lane. Went across to the shops for some cans last night and the cops were quite happily driving around ignoring the war zone taking place around them. Dont wish to be a killjoy but its about time that these things were banned from sale to the general public.

Bunch of nutters on the beach at Cullercoats when I was there Saturday night, fkn huge rockets going off in all directions.

We had a load of small garden fireworks for the kids, but some of the stuff going off down the street from us was crazy, found loads of casings in previous years from fireworks that shouldn\'t be available to the public, yet oddly plenty of people around Newsham seem able to get hold of them from somewhere. :-(

Pretty sure it was in the papers a while ago about a load getting confiscated by the customs, apparently they had come from eastern europe, suppose you can buy anything if you want it ! Waste of money if you ask me,took the kids to Croft Park last night at Blyth it lasted about 15/20 minutes, not bad for a couple of quid but it seems to be over quicker each year, suppose it keeps the little ones off the streets

we had a news letter from the lib dems regarding this ,you can only use them on 4 special days of the year but it didnt say what the days are ,new year ,nov 5th and im buggerd if i can think of the other 2,
we have them going off round the doors from end of sept onwards and a week after the 5th ,they should only be on sale on the day or the day before and to over 18s but the shops wont comply me thinks,
i can think of better things to spend £20 on than 5 mins worth of fountains and duff fireworks that smoke more than fizzle
        cheers Bri

Doesn\'t matter what time of year it is, when you\'re out on Shields pier all night, you see fireworks going off all the time.....and at all hours.

Looking South towards Sunderland.....you\'ll see them
Looking North to Tynemouth.....you\'ll see them
Looking West to North Shields (and beyond).....you\'ll see them.

Like Gag......I don\'t wanna be kiljoy, but I totally agree with him.......fireworks should not be on general sale to the public, but should ONLY be available to organisations who hold a licence and the necessary 3rd party insurance.

Bought some a few years ago and while they were fun it seemed a lot of money for a few minutes. Don\'t seem like the effort after I\'d watched the displays at EPCOT and Magic Kingdom last year. Then again it cost a few bob and the kids still fight , they don\'t appreciate what I\'ve done for them

Some plank came down to the beach on Sunday when we were fishing and gave us a 20 min show. Penultimate rocket went up no more than 2-3 feet off the ground and blew sparks etc over a 50ft radius. How no-one was hurt I do not know.
"And I looked, and behold'a pale horse; and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with hi, and power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword and with hunger, and with the beasts of the earth"

Both of my parents still live in South Shields and they are well into their 80s. They have had a firework proof letterbox flap fitted to stop any of these nutters pushing fireworks through the door. Then there is that guy in Sunderland who lost his life due to a rocket being put through his letterbox. Makes you shudder to think of the possible consequences from these things which when all is said and done are explosives.

My brother\'s had the rocket through the letterbox treatment before, house was empty at the time so it\'s lucky it didn\'t set anything alight. Some complete ********s around.

I like the small garden fireworks and in my mind that\'s all that should be on sale, not the huge stuff you see in the shops. We bought £15 worth and had an hours enjoyment without a single loud bang or massive barrage.

Think at the end of the day though an all out ban on sale to the public is going to be the only way of stopping the mong heads.
