  • SNP Rout!

    SNP - 56. Labour - 1. Liberal - 1. Tories - 1.

SNP - 50.2% of the vote.

Wasn't it magnanimous of us Scots to allow 1 MP from the other 3 parties a seat each in London? Shows how fair the Scottish are!

It is just a crying shame that the voters "down south" have tainted the best night of my life, politics wise.

Why do the southerners keep voting Tories?? They are the party of the rich, screw the poor, why don't they get that??

Another 5 years of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, austerity, unemployment, zero hour contracts, pulling out of Europe, chaos at Westminster, crazy Tory MPs holding the Government to ransom to push through policies of the far right. What a nightmare!

The one ray of light is that I didn't think I would see another Scottish independence referendum in my lifetime......................... now I know I will!

Being an Easington colliery lad and unionist, I never thought I'd say that the Tories getting in wouldn’t be the worst scenario...relived that the SNP will have no real influence because to me that would have been worse. The thought of a LAB/SNP CON/SNP coalition was giving me nightmares.

I guess that the "Scottish Lion" will just have to roar a bit louder than everyone else...usually canny at shouting.

No real influence, dream on Liam!

I am interested to know, as a colliery lad, why you would want the Tories rather than a Labour/SNP alliance? I mean the Tories hate the poor and disadvantaged, love the rich and with Labour/SNP you get a party of fairness and equality, a party who fights for the poor, a party with progressive policies, oh and you get Labour too!

Joking aside what on earth scares you about the SNP?

Mark - the SNP I'm sure would provide all those things...to the Scottish. All I seem to hear from them is "Scotland, Scotland, Scotland" ..and "Scotland"
The manifesto didnt exactly change my opinion either. I just wish the brave Scots had the balls to jump last time. This nationalism isnt helping us, so bring on the next referendum and lets get the 12 year olds voting this time to get over the line, well..50%

I might be an Easington colliery lad and that inherent likelihood means I am ultra labour...but as Phil said they sure have made there mistakes as well. I see nothing good in the SNP, unless you’re Scottish and dare I say I tad selfish - especially if you voted the SNP in yesterday but bottled the referendum.
I know you didn’t Mark and totally respect your vote - If I was Scottish and living in Scotland, I'd have voted the same way you did on both counts. For the good of Scotland, you need independence.
For me as an English chap, the SNP isn’t helping at all.

The banks' financial collapse started long before Labour ever came to power actually and the Tories were to blame as much as Labour, as they created the the criteria to allow banks to run wild. The banks were the most to blame though.

If you think unemployment is bad now, it will be double if we pull out of Europe and the pound will crash, as we will be shunned by Europe and our exports will also crash, but feel free to vote for it, as it will give Scotland the reason it needs to have another referendum.

Liam I hear you, but Labour is dead in the water and is unlikely to form a Government for years to come. For decades the Scottish Labour MPs occasionally gave them enough MPs to rule in the UK. Scotland has had enough of propping up a psuedo socialist party, that takes no account of Scottish issues, so I'm afraid when we do go it alone, England will be forever Tory. If I lived in the NE I would be terrified of that prospect.

The reason we lost the referendum, which the figures confirm, is that English people living in Scotland were allowed a vote(I think a 5 year residency rule should have applied before they had the right to a vote) and Scottish people living temporarily in England, like my partner's daughter who is at Uni in Birmingham had no vote, even though she was born, bred and lives in Scotland, but happens to currently live in England while at Uni. Is that fair? Of course not, but Cameron set the rules.

One point, as I've said before - it is clear that if Scotland becomes Independent, the the Tories rule in England for generations yet the Tories don't want that, why?

Because they know they would be financially worse off, as contrary to the lies spewed out, Scotland pays into the UK more than it gets out.

Oh and they would have to find a home in England for Trident and you know it wouldn't be down south Liam!!

Not fair Mark the points you mention about the referendum, but I think other rules favoured a Yes vote and it wasn’t close in the end anyway.
Scotland is better for Scots as an independent nation and more Scots will continue to realise that as time passes, or just not be drawn in by the scaremongering. Fact is Britain benefits massively from having Scotland in it....as for Trident, how about a place recently (allegedly) described as "desolate wasteland" -my birthpace, Hartlepool! after all its usually a good dumping ground isn’t it? Nuclear power stations and storage, oh and storage/dismantling of disease ridden ghost ships pops to mind just over recent years for this wasteland.

Sure it will be harder for Labour once Scotland goes…and go they will eventually unless Cameron comes up with a genius stroke to “bring the UK together” – can’t see it happening.
I think leadership plays a big part in a general election and a lot of the electorate vote for someone they like the look of basically, Clegg being a recent e example…not anymore of course.
Ed doesn’t have that persona and the Labour party lacks leadership, whereas the Tories (much as it pains me to say) have leaders all over the shop in my eyes. Labour need to move forward with a good man/woman at the helm, but I really do not see where that person is coming from.
Tories in for the long haul as it currently stands I feel.

Us in the North East totally ignored due to the fact that firstly Tories are in power and secondly influential neighbours to the north will overshadow us – bad times for the NE

I'd also add to the list of reasons not to vote Labour.....Harriet Harman, Jack Dromey, Patricia Hewitt.....Margaret Hodge....Tony Blair and his spin doctor Alistair Campbell....Gordon Brown...Jack Straw.....Diane Abbott....10 years of the largest mass migration to this country than was seen in the previous 1000 years.....Andy Burnham and Mid Staffs Hospital....NHS in Wales.....I could go on....Oh and Ed Milliband....Check out the video online of 'Ed Milibands dad killed my kitten'.....The man is better suited to comedy than politics!

I think you are right on leaders and looking like leaders which is a sad indictment on our society. I am just gobsmacked that after 5 years of shambolic austerity government the Tories win even more seats, I despair!!

The NE should come and join us Liam!

Re:Trident....We used to have cracking shipyards down here...If The Scots are so keen to get rid of Trident and our national defence, I read that it maintains around 11,000 jobs and contributes about £60 million pounds to the local economy....We could then build UK naval ships on the Tyne.
Once out of the EU we could use them to police our territorial waters to protect fish stocks from non UK vessels.
Sounds like win win to me
