Don\'t think it will make the slighest bit difference.

the process will go like this

    agree to an assembly

loads of folks get made redundant and have to be paid off, then get a job straight away as part of new assembly. Spend loads more money setting up the infrastructure which will basically re-create whats therre already. Spend loads more money developing and \'assmebly building\' probably in Newcastle.

spend loads more money telling us all haow great it is.

spend loads more money cos when the bills come it was all under estimated costs wise (see holyrood!)

council tax gets abolished to be replaced with local income tax, which suprise suprise costs more than the old council tax system

Personally I think its a jobs for the boys set up. There will be those that are in that particular world who will make pots of cash from it and have a job for life (tony\'s cronies) Us mere moratls will just get bent over a table and rogered senseless from behind

I just don\'t see the need to spend all that money, to do what we are doing already. It\'ll give the region a voice independant of central government, yeah right believe that and you\'ll believe me that I caught a 30lb cod using jelly babies as bait on shileds pier.

If the region isn\'t getting a voice in government at present, how is a small local council (ie wear valley) going to get a voice in the assembly which will be dominated by the big boys (newcastle, sunderland boro etc)

It just a recipe for disaster and completley un-necessary

wales and scotland supposedly have and indepenat parliament now, except if tony says jump they all shout how high

whatever tony says it will cost, at least double it or treble it and then think how many hospitals. schools, nurses, teachers etc we could have for the same money.

The costs in scotland for devolution are now nearly 2bn, holyrood was quoted as going to cost 35 million, final price 440million. Thats a lot of text books in the schools.

A friend of mine was one of the barristers at the enquiry. It was a case of snouts in the trough and who can get the most fastest. Office chairs were 900 quid each, Ho delicate and ******** do mp\'s have that they need to sit on a 900 quid chair. I\'d even challenge you to find and office chair that costs that much. each mp\'s office has its own bathroom - at a cost of 30grand. thirty grand for a lavvy and a shower! and on it goes and it\'ll be exactly the same here

better stop before I go completely off on one.

If you haven\'t read animal farm before or since you were a kid read it again. Its really an incisive documentary on new labour!

Got to agree.......COMPLETE waste of OUR money.
A toothless body which will have very little say and even less influence in the way Central Govt distributes resources.

The only people who will get anything out of it (if it gets a \"yes\" vote) are the likes of Ray Mallon and John Hall. They crave the attention and the \"power\" they see coming with the job......not to mention the ££££.

Another tier of Government?.........not for me, thanks.

If I had got in first bri, I would have said wot he said. I did put lol there but then had a think about it. It is not something that I feel able to talk about in an affable way. It is total crap that anyone can say that it will be beneficial to anyone that is reading this post.
If there is a member (of parliament) that thinks this is a good idea please enlighten us.
Sorry can\"t put any more than that. It is a subject that I feel very strongly about And I did think VERY hard before posting so am going to try hard NOT to comment on it again (unless Ell has anything to say lol.)

Lol Bri.......There\'s only so many ways you can say something\'s crap........and if somebody beats you to them, there\'s little else to say.

I\'ve worked in Local Govt. for 27 years and believe me, there\'s enough waste of resources goes on now, without adding further wastage of OUR hard earned £££.

no offence intended jim lol ,order in the house, ive noticed theres been very little public information handed out as to the ins and outs ,so maybe theres something they dont want us to know, ive lived in a few areas of newcastle before deciding to settle where i am and its the same old same old all over ,modernisation schemes get started then stopped through lack of funds,i cant see that changing in the future in fact i think therl be less money if someone other than labour gets in power

One more goverment body to tax us for , I have just had a letter from the local council i have to clean outside of my own shop and supply a reg istered waste collector for my rubbish or pay thr council more money to empty my bins. What the f*** do i pay a fortune in non domestic rates for. IT will be even worse if we get local goverment
,lets tax everybody and all business to death so we can not afford to have a pension at the end of it all HURRAY FOR TONY

had a great conversation(!) with a gut in hartlepool today on this subject. He set off on a 10 minute rant about tony and his cronies. I later asked hime how he\'d voted in the by-election recently

                        \"labour\" he sez

                        \"why?\" I sez

                        \"coz I always vote labour\"

now there\'s democracy for you. the problem is there\'s millions of others like him that will always vote labour/tory because they always have, or because their dad did etc. Doesn\'t matter how crap their party is they\'ll always vote for em

so sit back and relax and enjoy the next and final 5 years of the great britain story

Nice one Billy. Lets face it though, ANYTHING Mr. Prescott advocates has got to be questionable. We have Sir John Hall and Brendan Foster urging us to vote FOR the assembly and at the end of the day, if elected in, we will end up paying for it and as usual get nothing in return. What really gets my goat though is that anyone would actually vote for MORE politicians !. BIG NO NO FROM ME AND THE FAMILY.
