Snapped rod!!!

well had the dog along the beach sea flat calm an very clear, anyways in a good mood, in the van and home just as a was gettin out the van a dropped me phone which dissapeared into the back, so got in the back lookin about movin tools gear etc, went to move the rods(three in van at mo, 2 sh**t, 1 my decent spinnin rod) then snap, off came the tip, bout 2inch's and it was the decent rod now in bad mood and gutted cos skint at mo and use that rod alot at moment

its a shakespeare salt spin, is it repairable or can a but a new section?

any info of advice appreciated, can put pics up if needed cheers

2 inches off a 10ft spinning rod shouldn't make too much of a difference I wouldn't think...someone please jump in if I'm talking sh@. You can get that repaired easily enough - take it to a tackle shop and see what they can do for you

yeah am not bothered bout the size, just want it fixed not sure how easy it would be, any idea wat kinda price they'll charge(rough idea) cos bit skint, cheers

Take it down to Lewis's in Whitley mate - they'll size you up a new tip ring & fit it for you (couple of minutes with the lighter & hot-melt) and shouldn't cost more than a couple of quid, unless it's some fancy Zircon or something.

OOPS - looks like you'll need to cut off the ring next to the break as well. Then tidy up the break a bit (junior hacksaw & a bit of wet & dry paper). You'll find the rod's a good bit stiffer afterwards! Took the tip off my Apollo Mk1 recently just behind the tip ring whipping (only about an inch off the blank) & stuck a new ring on. It was then hellish stiff but managed to get a spare tip section so all was ok in the end.

do u think its possible to re-use the old tip ring? like drill the old stuff out of it? cheers

I'd think the blank will likely be too thick to fit - you never know though so I'd take it along, it should come off ok over a lighter flame if it's fixed with hot-melt glue. You'll probably need the next size up, but they only charge the cost of the ring - fitting is free.

Heat the tip ring over the gas and pull with a pair of pliars, it should come off. Just done it with my conoflex after some tosser stood on it on Roker pier. Cost £2 for a new tip ring and fitted it back on with hot glue stick. Tidied it up and looks great. By the look of the pic, its the same type of tip ring but as said before it may you need a slightly bigger fitting as the rod will be that bit thicker.
