had my first visit to roker pier since it reopend to the public.
I was so disgusted with the amount of litter left on the pier by mindless so called sea anglers that have not respect for the venue, it was like going onto the rathouse, line plastic bottles bait paper plastic bags and bags just left on the railings.
roker pier is a great venue for disabled lads to go on and fish in safety, these mindless people are putting the pier at risk of being closed to anglers.
how long will the council tolerate this type of problem?.
they have to send staff onto the pier to remove the rubbish keep the place clean and tidy.
this also puts fishermen in a bad light with the general public, as they just want to stroll along the pier with there family.
it only takes a few complaints form the general public and a number of local councillors the fishing from roker pier will be put at risk.
it takes nothing to put your rubbish in a bag and take if of the pier at the end of the session and put it in the bin at the end of the pier how hard is that ,

Was on there Sunday & loads of used Bait just took off the Hooks & laid about for people to step on. Too idle to throw it over the Fence.
Maybe the Council should put Signs at intervals along the Pier, warning Anglers of the consequences if they litter the place.

They will almost certainly Ban Angling on there eventually if this mindless Littering goes on.

At least we now have proof that it isn't just the maccy bashers! Total disgrace. Bag it and bin it. Takes all of 5 seconds.

Same problem on ssp today, pier watchman complained about mess.
I cleared up some, including line, hooks, half drunk cans of beer, paper, discarded bait, etc.
The worst is those that urinate against the pier walls, why they cannot do it over the side into the sea I do not know.
It gets all fishermen a bad name and will result in these venues being closed to all.

Ave said this for ages, it's certainly NOT just the macky bashers. The Heugh is also a mess at the moment, cans of fosters on the end amongst all the other sh!te.
I know that pier gets a fair few foreigners now but sure seen a few experienced anglers guilty.

Don't think the problem will go away but well done those who do a bit of a tidy up.

I had an all night session on Amble pier on Saturday and I was pleasantly surprised to see no angling related rubbish whatsoever. The council recently placed some large rubbish bins on the pier and it would seem that the message may be getting through to the idiots who leave their rubbish behind. It only takes a matter of seconds to put your old bait wrappers, beer cans and similar items in a carrier bag and drop it in the bin. I don`t know if the Amble fishing club was behind the idea in conjunction with the council but it seems to be working.

              roker pier

I would hope that the council would put a few bins on the pier as amble with a notice, there used to be one just down from the main gate at roker but that's been removed with the improvements to the sea front.
there used to also be small bins on the pier railings and one next to the light house steps.
these people give anglers a very bad name as litter louts no respect + the council could close the pier for fishing saying its a health and safety issue for the general public hooks line ect just left lying around for any one to stand on
a lot of people go down to roker to walk along the pier with there dogs.
its so sad to go down and see the area like a **** hole more so when its just had maintenance work done and reopened.
