Apart from anything else I can't imagine johnson being in the right frame of mind to play football, let alone a derby game, considering he's been investigated for having sexual relations with an underage girl? His employer's stated he would be suspended until the police investigation was completed, at least keeping him out of the limelight, for his own protection and well being i'd have thought.

If Sunderland had been in mid table safety do you think they would let him play and be subject to opposing fans abuse? no chance

I don't know why the suspect of the Claudia lawrence case hasn't been named keith, I do remember a suspect being named and bailed a couple of years ago which came to nothing? maybe they don't want to make the same mistake again? i'm not sure of the legalities of it.

What do you Sunderland supporters think? should Johnson be playing premier league football whilst still under investigation for such a serious offence? did you hear the abuse he got off the West Ham Fans?

I think the club were wrong to suspend him in the first place, at least until he'd been charged with something. Any of us could be wrongly accused.

Whether he can play given the abuse he'll be subjected to is another matter, it may have a positive effect and spur him on, who knows.

quite right keith, truth is he's a decent player who has the ability to score or create a goal from nothing, as a nufc fan i'd rather him not play, as it is one less creative player for the already dour mackems.

By playing him the club are clearly putting their well being before the player's , which is understandable considering the position they're in (again)

Raul Moat was a murdering coward , gazza was the best , most naturally gifted English footballer of his, and probably all other Eras. Unfortunately he has his demons and mental illness. "gazza done nowt" , nowt, apart from inspire a generation or two to play the beautiful game, lit up a world cup, and a european championship? Played for England, Spurs , Lazio, Nufc, Everton, Rangers (even boro) scored wonder goals and did it all with a smile on his face?

he's widely regarded as the greatest british talent ever, not by just a humble fan like me, but by fellow pros & critics alike, fantastic balance, great vision, burst of pace, great at set peces a really intelligent player (on the field anyway)

definitely , I thought Alan Hansen was a graceful defender, who read the game well, but he was a centre half and scotish ffs? I was talking about english gifted players gascoigne in particular, and you bring up a scottish centre half If you'd mentioned hoddle , maybe that would have been relevant

Well what has gazza contributed? And what did he achieve? How many Trophies did he win? How many awards? Not saying mental illness is a laughing matter but when some one has had as much help as him and still goes on the drink he deserves everything he gets, same as best what did he contribute? Yet the likes of Beckham gets slated as he has odd dress sense I know who I would want my kids to turn out like, and gazza could not lace beckhams boots IMO
