  • My pond project

Was bored one day in the middle of february so decided i was going to start to build a pond.
With me not having a garden as such i had to build some thing above the ground as i really didnt want the chew of taking concrete up, so i decided i was going to build a timber framed pond and use a liner. I managed to obtain a LOT of Timber for a fraction of what it would normally cost, so i set about planning what size i would like and where. I opted to build a L7 x W4 x D4 {at the deep part}. Me and my mate managed to build the whole structure in just 1 day, we double skinned it, so the walls of the pond were around 6 inches thich and we used 9x2 on the corners as well as angle irons for strength.

we managed to get this far before i went to China for a month, so when i got back i started buying all of the necessary bits and bobs required to keep a pond running healthy, Liner, Filter, Pump, Uv Sterilizer etc.
It took me about a month to get everything as all together it aint too cheap, last week weather beaming down i decided to get the liner in, it was a mammoth battle doing it on my own, but 2 hours later i had managed to tame it and had it fitted, so before trimming the overlaps i filled it 3 quarters full of water to let the liner settle.
Next day i set up all the filtration system, but then hit a major snag, I had previously bought some of the ribbed pond hose, but found out that its very difficult to get a water tight seal and flooded my fish house, next day managed to get some heavy duty rubber hose which did the trick and had me a very happy man at the end of it all.

So after the plans and the beginning of the build in february i have managed to complete the job, and i even have some plants in and a few fish. i have 4 golden orfe, and 5 crucian carp.
Next week i will be adding a few more fish, im fancying a green tench or a few mirror carp, then when they get bigger ill release them in my local carp lake .

Here is the finished article, bar the trellis roof i plan to put over the top to ward of those pesky birds, and yeah i really need to get that bit wall finished and painted up, but there should be plenty nice days to come to get those jobs done.
